GMS/GMSUTIL/GMSARC WINGIT.DOC
GMSUTIL allows you to ARC/unARC courses, import/export
course files or ARCs from diskette, rename/delete course
files or ARCs, view ARCs, display hd space stats, and
transfer control to the course Architect or to GMS.
GMSARC will ARC all active course files (112k ea. vs. 20 to
40K ea. when ARCed). You'll probably need to run this only
once.
GMS allows you to select any of the unARCed courses for
play, and displays directories of courses, saved games, and
halls of fame. It keeps track of the last 10 games played
and maintains a file of course info including user
comments. GMS also displays hall of fame file contents.
SETUP
GMS programs assume all files are in a single HD directory.
To make things easier, unprotect GOLF.EXE and ARCH.EXE
first (unprotect instructions are available on many BBSs).
Here are the steps required to get going:
1. Make a HD directory in which all MEAN18/GMS files will
be kept,
2. Make sure that Phil Katz's PKARC and PKXARC programs
are in your DOS PATH or copy them into the MEAN18
directory,
3. Copy the MEAN18 program diskette to your HD and
unprotect the GOLF and ARCH programs,
4. Copy all .EXE and .SCR files from the GMS.ARC file into
the MEAN18 HD directory,
5. Copy as many course files as you can (.M18 or .M10) into
the MEAN18 HD directory,
6. Run the GMSARC program to ARC all course files (it'll
free up space for more course files),
7. Run GMSUTIL to unARC your favorite course files (course
files must be unARCed to be playable),
8. F9 to GMS. F1 to select the course you want to play and
<Enter>
That's all there is to it. Happy Golfing. After you have
enjoyed a few games, consider reading the documentation.
