GAME DESCRIPTION
Note that this game runs on Monochrome or Color/Graphics
This game simulates the game of professional football. You (the single player
of the game) act as the coach of one team versus the computer. As the coach
you are asked to call all of the offensive and defensive plays through keyboard
input. You will find that most aspects of the actual game of football have been
faithfully recreated.
At any time during the game the position of the ball is marked on a simulated
field and the actual yard line is given on the scoreboard. The ball marker is
an arrow and always points in the direction of current offensive movement. FOR
PURPOSES OF SIMPLICITY, YOUR TEAM WILL ALWAYS MOVE FROM LEFT TO RIGHT ON
OFFENSE. THE COMPUTER WILL ALWAYS ATTEMPT TO MOVE THE BALL FROM RIGHT TO LEFT.
THIS WILL BE THE SAME IN ALL FOUR QUARTERS OF THE GAME.
During play the screen will display the field (with ball marker), a list of
possible plays, and a scoreboard. The scoreboard contains information
concerning score, down, yardline, yards to go for 1st down, quarter, and the
time remaining in the quarter.
Players are selected at the beginning of a game from a randomly developed
group. Similar players are chosen automatically for the computer's team. You
will be required to select a quarterback, 2 running backs (designated as
players A and B), and 3 receivers (designated X, Y, and Z). The letter
designations (A, B, X, Y, Z) are used in descriptions from which plays are
selected. Consider the players to be set up on offense as shown below:
X . . . . . Y Z X,Y,Z: RECEIVERS
Q Q: QUARTERBACK
A B A,B: RUNNING BACKS
. . : LINEMEN
You have 15 seconds in which to select a play once the list is shown. The
plays are selected by letter and by the keyboard. Once you are used to the
available plays and their designations you can type in your choice prior to
being shown the choices in order to speed up playing time.
The clock is updated after each play. Incomplete passes and time-outs stop the
clock so that the next play will use less than the normal amount of time.
For purposes of simplicity penalties cannot be declined in this version of
FUUTBOL.
You will find that the computer is programmed to play in a non-random fashion.
The computer tracks the trends in your play selection in order to optimize his
own play calling abilities.
