  11.                     SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  12.  
  13. You will need a HARD DISK (1.8 mbytes) and 540 KB of RAM to
  14. run FS-PRO. You will also need a CGA, EGA or VGA video driver.
  15. Please, read documentation FSPRO.DOC for a hassel-free
  16. installation.
  17.  
  18.                         JUMP-STARTERS
  19.  
  20. If you just can't wait then, at least, finish the next few
  21. paragraphs before installing.
  22.  
  23. Whatever you do, don't haul off and try to install FS-PRO
  24. without using the automatic installation program. You're
  25. doomed if you do and, FS-PRO is absolutely guaranteed not to
  26. work. Please, don't consider this small README file as a
  27. substitute to the FSPRO.DOC file provided on System Disk #5
  28. or, the INSTRUCTION file provided from the INSTALL MENU
  29. when you elect to install FS-PRO. Hundreds of users have
  30. successfully installed FS-PRO without a hitch. Chances are,
  31. if you have trouble, the files are corrupt or you didn't
  32. follow instructions.
  33.  
  34.                  BBS Package of ZipFiles
  35.                  IBM/PS2 & 3" HD's Okay
  36.  
  37. FS-PRO should be provided in a ZipFile format for distribution
  38. on public bulletin boards. Each ZipFile contains all of the
  39. correct EXEcutable files for each of the 5 different system
  40. disks. UnZip each of the FSPRO93A - FSPRO93E files to 5
  41. seperate 360K DSDD diskettes labeled System Disk #1 of 5,
  42. System Disk #2 of 5 and so on.
  43.  
  44. Then, place System Disk #1 of 5 into either floppy drive A:
  45. or B: and type INSTALL and press ENTER. The Installation
  46. process is menu driven with on-screen HELP and completely
  47. automatic.
  48.

  51. You should check the diskette inventory information in the
  52. FSPRO.DOC file to be sure that the correct files are on the
  53. correct diskette number. Otherwise, the installation process
  54. will fail.
  55.  
  56.                       IBM/PS2 and AT
  57.  
  58. FS-PRO is shipped to be set up on 5 1/4" 360K DSDD diskettes.
  59. Even though a single HD diskette would be preferrable,
  60. there are too many users without AT capabilities and 360K
  61. still seems to be the standard. Therefore, during the
  62. installation process we will prompt you to insert each
  63. system disk as it is required from 1 to 5.
  64.  
  65. If you need to use a 3" high density diskette, then simply
  66. copy all of the FS-PRO EXEcutable files to a single disk.
  67. Even though our automatic installation program prompts you
  68. to enter each of the system disks, simply select <C>ontinue
  69. to proceed. All we require is that we find the proper file
  70. on the source diskette when we look for it prior to
  71. transferring. It can be on a single diskette or five.
  72. Regardless, INSTALL will find it and go on about it's
  73. business.
  74.  
  75. To conserve disk space, you do NOT have to copy FSPI.EXE,
  76. FSPRO.DOC, INSTALL.HLP or INSTALL.BAT to the high density
  77. diskette. You can start FSPI.EXE from any disk or drive.
  78. Just keep INSTALL.HLP with FSPI.EXE for on-screen HELP.
  79. Since these files are only used once, we do not transfer
  80. them to your fixed disk during installation.
  81.  
  82. But, if it's on 5 seperate disks, then the correct files must
  83. be on the correct diskette as it is called for during the
  84. installation process. If the ZipFiles have not been altered,
  85. then each contains the proper files for each System Disk.
  86.  
  87.                   SILENCE IS only $5 a disk...

  89. The only way to get a version of FS-PRO 10 that will work with
  90. Microsoft's new Flight Simulator 4.0 (plus) is to order series
  91. 10 from TekMate. (See order form below.) It doesn't play the
  92. "blankety-blank" music so you can "Fly" in the middle of the
  93. night. Plus, it does so much more.

  95. Mail $25.00 + $3 S&H for the 5-disk set, complete with updates,
  96. latest data bases, typeset docs and voice support. The $3.00
  97. is for the mailer box and stamps. If you have a modem, this also
  98. gets you FLY Conference privileges on LINX.

  101. purchase FS-PRO Series 10. All you have to do to get future
  102. updates is return the original disks with $3.50 for boxing and
  103. mailing. All of this for only $5 a disk. It's an incredible
  104. bargain that hundreds of people have discovered. Disks come
  105. professionally packaged and labeled with current LINX
  106. newsletters, typeset docs to fit SubLOGIC'S scenery binders and
  107. a disk mailing box you can use to send us your disks for future
  108. updates. All of this for only $5 a disk. And, don't forget the
  109. FLY Conference. It's one-stop shopping for PC Pilots to get the
  110. latest flight related software. I know, only $5 a disk.

  112.                    SHARING ModPaks
  113.  
  114. Here are a few tips for creating a "good" ModPak file. The
  115. little name "ModPak" refers to a group of FS-PRO files that
  116. make up a single ADVENTURE scenerio.
  117.  
  118.         1. Fly the ADVENTURE and be sure to set up
  119.         all NAVAIDS (radios) to the proper operating
  120.         frequencies. Be sure to set all ENVIRONS just
  121.         as you want the MODE to load and begin operating.
  122.         If you want ATIS to come on, then press the "C"
  123.         key and when it starts to scroll, press "1" and
  124.         CREATE a new MODE. Then it will appear at load
  125.         up. SAVE it.
  126.  
  127.         2. Now, load up FS-PRO and select the MODE "tag"
  128.         function from the Main Menu (#2). Locate the .MOD
  129.         file and select it. We will load the ENVIRONS data
  130.         that you saved and you are ready to leave your
  131.         COMMENTS about the ADVENTURE. That's ALL you have to
  132.         do. Then, when you look at your personal ADVENTURE
  133.         library, the .ADV file will be present and from then
  134.         on you may select the ADVENTURE, read about it, and
  135.         then FLY it from the same FS-PRO menu.
  136.         Therefore, we CREATE new ADVENTURES by reading the
  137.         data out of your .MOD file (which you saved after
  138.         you flew it and SAVED the MODE)... and, from your
  139.         verbose description or COMMENTS.
  140.  
  141.         3. Unless my ADVENTURE is just a "touch & go" type
  142.         of MODE, I like to "file" a flight plan to the
  143.         nearest (interesting) airport following the
  144.         initial ADVENTURE setting.
  145.  
  146. Therefore, a complete ModPak consists of files with
  147. extensions...
  148.  
  149.         .ADV file with the ENVIRONS data
  150.         .DAT file with your COMMENTS
  151.         .FPN file with a flight plan
  152.         .MOD file for Flight Simulator
  153.  
  154. There is ONE (set) for each ADVENTURE that you create. So,
  155. if you archive a compressed file with 4 individual ADVENTURES
  156. in it, there will be 4 each of ...
  157.  
  158.   (4)   .MOD     Microsoft Flight Simulator "MODE" files
  159.   (4)   .ADV     FS-PRO "mode" files
  160.   (4)   .DAT     FS-PRO description files
  161.   (4)   .FPN     FS-PRO flight plans
  162.  
  163. in the archive. Or, 16 files total. As you will discover, these
  164. are very small files and, unless you have huge clusters, they
  165. take up very little room. Hundreds of adventures can be
  166. stored in a single ModPak archive.
  167.  
  168. The best way to "judge" a good ModPak is to ask yourself if
  169. you would want someone sending you the ADVENTURES. If you have
  170. to set up all of the radio frequencies, windows, views and
  171. weather, then forget it! The ADVENTURE ModPak is worthless.
  172. You may as well start from "scratch." And, if there is no
  173. description of the flight then, why bother?
  174.  
  175.                 NAMING CONVENTIONS for ModPaks
  176.  
  177. We are conforming to the following naming convention for
  178. ModPak DOS files. It's easy to forget the DOS name selection
  179. #2 when saving MODES using FS III. However, the default names
  180. can sure get to be jibberish if you simply let the name be
  181. created from the first 8 characters of your DESCRIPTION.
  182.  
  183. For MAIN SCENERY disk airports, we use...
  184.  
  185.         M-CMI-1.MOD
  186.  
  187. The M stands for ModPak and lets us know that we have a full
  188. description of the ADVENTURE and hopefully a FLIGHT PLAN.
  189. It is, none other, than a genuine ModPak file! A  real
  190. "thing-a-ma-jig" for our FS-PRO doo-dads.
  191.  
  192. The CMI stands for Meigs Field and is the 3-character
  193. identifier of the nearest airport.
  194.  
  195. The 1 stands for the first in a series of Meigs ADVENTURES.
  196. Other Meigs scenerios would progress to 2, 3 and so on.
  197.  
  198. For SUBLOGIC scenery disks, we use...
  199.  
  200.         M1-DWH-3.MOD
  201.  
  202. We added the 1 following the M to identify scenery disk #1
  203. for David Wayne Hooks airport and the 3 to identify the
  204. particular ADVENTURE scenerio. There must have a 1 and a 2 in
  205. the series unless we erased them.
  206.

  222. experience for me. I had always been driving in AUTOCORD

  252. Computer Pilot's Association of America (CPAA) monthly news
  253. releases and the PC Pilot Magazine. They print things about
  254. flight simulation that we dream about. They also cover all
  255. different types of flight related software. Excellent values
  256. and "stand up" work. Great PC flight simulation resources.
