FS-PRO UTILITIES and SETUP
FSPU.EXE
December 1988
This file is ONLY useful with the FS-PRO Series 7 PC-Flying
enhancements distributed via LINX BBS - (713) 440-7364. If
it got separated from the rest of the archives, then it
is useless.
USING FSPU.EXE AS THE SETUP UTILITY
This module is used the very first time that you run FS-PRO.
Older versions had the EDIT PARAMETER function choice on the
main menu. As FS-PRO grew, we wanted to handle UTILITIES and
SETUP routines apart from the main program modules as they
are not needed as often and only slow things down.
Be sure to select item # 1 (SETUP) and check your PATH MAP
and other system preferences. The INSTALL program created
the proper PATHS and DIRECTORIES. Just be sure to double
check. 99% of the problems associated with this program can
be traced directly to improper pathways.
You may also choose your color preferences and enter your own
name for personalization of menus and reports. Once you have
the system installed, you need not worry about the SETUP
unless you change things around.
USING THE TAG DIRECTORY
I needed a way to quickly COPY and DELETE the special
files used by FS-PRO, so I wrote this little DIRECTORY
and FILE MANAGER specifically for the .ADV, .DAT, and
.MOD files found in the various FS-PRO directories.
The MAIN MENU is used to select the FILES used by FS-PRO and
automatically presents you with the DOS directory listings
for the specific directories being used by FS-PRO and that
are found in the PARM.OVL file created when you use FS-PRO.
You can see the filesize, creation date and time, etc.
The TAG DIRECTORY will allow you to COPY or DELETE numerous
files by "tagging" them and then deciding what to do with
them. The TAG directory listing will ONLY handle 1,000
files, so if you expect to have more than that number in any
individual DIRECTORY, then we suggest that you use another
commercial program, such as XTREE or XTREE-PRO to manage
your FS-PRO files.
To enter a PROPER "tag" directory using WILDCARDS, try the
following...
C:\*.BAT
This will list all of your BATCH files with a DOS
extension of .BAT in the ROOT DIRECTORY of your C:\
drive. You may TAG as many as you like and COPY them to
floppy disks or DELETE them. PLEASE DO NOT DELETE THEM! You
will have every opportunity to ABORT and QUIT.
In all cases, when working with TAGGED files, you will be
given a chance to APPROVE deleting files (one by one) or
automatically delete all that you have TAGGED. Copying will
also allow you to OVERWRITE existing files or APPROVE the
overwrite.
You may also use the TAG DIRECTORY for any of your files,
NOT just FS-PRO related files.
A simple TEXT VIEWER is available. This will read any file
up to about 65K. We could increase the size by simply
redimensioning the text array after a specific number of
bytes were read in, but I'm not out to re-invent the wheel.
There are gobs of excellent text readers in the PUBLIC
domain. The feature is here just because it can be handy for
README's, etc.
Simply enter the path and filespec for the file you want to
read. Then PgUp and PgDn or scroll through the thing.
When you select ADVENTURE files to DELETE or COPY, the
corresponding DESCRIPTION is also deleted or copied at the same
time. Therefore, we did not supply a separate TAG choice for
the .DAT files.
NON-FLY CONFERENCE MEMBERS and LONG DISTANCE
For the paultry sum of $25.00, I will mail you a complete
set of disks containing the latest version of FS-PRO Series
7 and the typeset (not bound fancy) documentation. When you
mail me the previous disks (older versions) and provide
mailer and postage, all future updates are FREE!
As of this date, it takes approximately 45 minutes to
download FS-PRO archives @ 2400 baud and 95 minutes @ 1200
baud. This offer may appeal to those who do not have
tele-data services on fixed monthly charges.
"Keep the dirty side down..."
Thanks,
Joe Lincoln
