EGAWHEEL Documentation
V.9.00PBS (02-26-88)
Requires EGA Card (256K) and Monitor
Start EGAWHEEL by typing EGAWHEEL from the A: prompt.
The disk must be unprotected (no write protect tab) in order
to update data files.
EGAWHEEL is a version of the TV game show Wheel of
Fortune. It is written entirely in GWBASIC and was
compiled with Microsoft QuickBASIC 3.0. Since it is
compiled with the /o option, it does not require any run
time libraries.
To the best of my knowledge, EGAWHEEL has never been
placed on public domain Bulletin Boards. It has been
extensively play tested by friends and secretaries at my
workplace (and their homes).
It has been found to run on all PC/XT/ATs and clones
(work-alikes to my friends in England) equipped with various
EGA cards (256K only) and monitors, so far. Changes which
are described in the file CHANGES.TXT are the result of
nonconformity to rules, BUGS, programming technique, etc.
An editor has been added to facilitate adding new clues
to your game. The version submitted to Public Brand Software
contains 200 game puzzles. I personally have added over 2000
clues from various sources. Anyone wishing my full data
base may order a disk from me for $10 (my only compensation
other than the fun of writing and playing the game). Newer
versions of the game and editor, if any, will be included
with the extended data file. I have not examined the memory
needs of the program as most people with EGA also have the
full 640K memory. The data files are not limited in size,
except by the size of the disk. The clues have a maximum of
20 characters and the puzzles are limited to 40 characters.
If you count the number of spaces on the TV show, you will
find a limit of 44 characters. Very few puzzles are this long,
and 40 characters does not seem to be a constraint.
Any suggestions for improvements are, of course, welcome.
I do not have the resources to rewrite the game for other
computers. Please, no more suggestions of digitizing the
Vanna White photos from PLAYBOY magazine! This is a family
game. For those who absolutely must have Vanna in their game
program, I suggest buying the Official Wheel of Fortune computer
game by Share Data (which supports CGA, but not EGA). Note: Despite
its name, programs from Share Data are NOT SHAREWARE and are copyrighted!
I have avoided using the name "Wheel of Fortune" so as not to
infringe the copyrights of Califon Productions, hence the name
EGAWHEEL.
Beware, younger children do not fully understand the
rules and are prone to fighting if one player monopolizes
the Wheel.
Eliminate Software Piracy! Support SHAREWARE and Public Domain!!
