  7.           Every player will find his regular game vastly improved 
  8.           since the team play allows for an educational and greatly 
  9.           illuminating interchange of ideas. This game is ideal for 
  10.           parents teaching children to play chess.   This particular 
  11.           four way chess is structured for maximum enjoyment and 
  12.           interplay.  It has been perfected over decades of play.

  15.                                      BOARD

  17.           The Chess board is comprised of a standard board with two 
  18.           additional rows on each of the four sides.  The pieces are 
  19.           set up on these two outermost rows as in a normal game 
  20.           except for the Kings as noted in rule 6 below.  Two 
  21.           different light colored sets of chess pieces play against 
  22.           two different dark sets.

  25.                                  RULES OF PLAY
  26.           
  27.            1. This is team chess two against two.  Talking is 
  28.           allowed during the game. 
  29.           
  30.            2. Teammates play adjacent (side by side) to each other 
  31.           not across from each other.  It is recommended that the 
  32.           teammates castle into their common corner for mutual 
  33.           protection.
  34.           
  35.            3. All normal rules of chess apply except as noted below.
  36.           The pieces move the same and except as noted below are set 
  37.           up the same.
  38.           
  39.            4. Light colors (e.g. white, yellow) play against dark 
  40.           colors (e.g. black, dark brown).
  41.           
  42.            5. One set of pieces are set up on each of the two 
  43.           outermost rows on the outside of each border in the same 
  44.           relative order as in a standard two man game except for 
  45.           the Kings (see 6 below).

  47.            6. When setting up the pieces, if the King is on a dark 
  48.           square, it must be put on a white square where the queen 
  49.           is.  The queen then is put on the King's normal square.
  50.           All the Kings thus start on a white square.
  51.           
  52.            7. Each player moves in a preset order with each team 
  53.           alternating its move.  For example, White, black, yellow, 
  54.           dark brown, white, black, etc..
  55.           
  56.            8. When a player is mated his pieces remain on the board; 
  57.           the mated player's pieces cannot be moved but can be taken 
  58.           by the other team.  An unmated teammate can of course move 
  59.           his pieces, but cannot move (or take) a checkmated 
  60.           teammate's pieces.
  61.           
  62.            9. When the first player of a team (e.g. the light team) 
  63.           is mated, play continues (unless the light team concedes) 
  64.           in the same preset order established when four played. The 
  65.           one remaining player plays the other two with 1 light team 
  66.           move to two dark team moves.  The mated player can talk 
  67.           and consult with his teammate helping him to move his 
  68.           pieces.

  70.           10. A player is checkmated when he cannot move his King in 
  71.           his move.  If a player is put in checkmate, but his 
  72.           partner frees him from checkmate before he moves, he can 
  73.           continue to play.

  75.           11. The en passant rule applies only to directly opposite 
  76.           moving pieces not adjacent ones.
