PRODUCT HISTORY
MULTILEVEL MARKETING NETWORK SIMULATOR (MLSIM) was born of an effort
to understand how to distinguish good marketing plans from bad ones.
By applying the author's observations of costs, commissions, and
downline reports from several MLM companies over a five year period,
it is possible to estimate how certain key elements might affect
overall profitability and reward for participants. A number of
studies, first programmed in 1987 on a Radio Shack MC-10,
were combined and adapted to take advantage of the IBM PC's power
and capacity. Releases to date are summarized below. We welcome
user suggestions on future development of this product.
Version Date Comments
1.0 04/90 For review purposes only--not widely distributed.
1.1 05/90 Initial Shareware distribution.
2.00 06/91 Major upgrade in response to user comments. Expanded
coverage of breakaway plans. Features user suggested
marketing plan with exceptional potential. Improved
displays.
AUTHOR INFORMATION
Author Lynn Vandermeulen holds degrees in engineering and computer
science from Yale and Hofstra Universities. In 1969 He left the
defense industry to help found a service bureau providing computer
services to small business. In 1983 he was attracted to a heavily
promoted MLM program offering a wide variety of consumer products
and billed to be the kind of opportunity that "occurs only once
in history". While his performance placed him consistently in the
top 1% of the distributors, he found that not only he, but even the
top distributor in the company, were making very little money.
A lesser effort in another MLM venture soon started producing better
results. Applying his skills as a freelance programmer he set out
on a series of computer studies which culminated in the early
versions of this program.

ASP SERVICES
L. Vandermeulen, author of this program, is a member of the
Association of Shareware Professionals (ASP). ASP wants to make sure
that the shareware principle works for you. If you are unable to
resolve a shareware-related problem with an ASP member by contacting
the member directly, ASP may be able to help. The ASP Ombudsman can
help you resolve a dispute or problem with an ASP member, but does not
provide technical support for members' products. Please write to the
ASP Ombudsman at 545 Grover Road, Muskegon MI 49442-9427, or send a
message via CompuServe Mail to ASP Ombudsman 70007,3536.
A common problem where ASP can be of help occurs when authors change
their address. ASP members are required to report address changes to
the Executive Director of ASP. Questions about an author's address
may be resolved by contacting the Executive Director at (616) 788-5131
or at the above address.
