QUICK-WISC Micro-Report Version 1.0 12/10/89
(Scores: WISC-R Copyright (c) 1974 The Psychological Corporation)
This program was written for the following basic reasons:
(1) To provide a rapid print-out of what I consider to be the most
useful indicators from the WISC-R, without the numerous (in
my opinion, largely irrelevant) calculations and combinations
provided by other programs.
(2) To finally close a chapter in my life, which began circa 1979,
with the first computer program I ever wrote, a WISC-R analysis
program, which was subsequently "borrowed" by at least two
companies that I know of, and claimed as their own, since I had
neglected to copyright. To be fair, the original code, admittedly
primitive, was re-written, yet most of the essential ideas remained
largely unchanged.
But since I no longer had control over the program, in one instance I
watched over several years, while formulas were incorrectly changed,
raw to scale conversions were added which resulted in a lawsuit by
the Psychological Corporation, and seemingly endless variations on
largely useless computations, for as of late, a retail price of $200.
(3) So it is with some small measure of satisfaction, and perhaps, even
an ironic bit of justice, that I have included herein the following
features, once more as a gift to the field:
--- Calculates Verbal, Performance, and Full Scale IQ's in the standard
manner, if at least 5 subtests have been given in both Verbal and
Performance areas.
--- Calculates Deviation Quotients for shortened administrations, for
any combination of subtests. Note: at least 2 Verbal or 2
Performance subtests must be given to calculate a VDQ or PDQ. At
least two subtests total must be given to calculate a FSDQ.
--- Calculates the Gutkin: Verbal Comprehension, Perceptual
Organization, and Freedom from Distraction Deviation Quotients,
which were designed as "purer" measures than the VIQ, PIQ, and FSIQ.
--- Calculates significant V - P splits, and prints paragraphs from
Sattler.
--- Graphs subtest variations from the mean of all subtests given. Those
that vary +/- 4 points from the mean are flagged with an (*) to
designate significant variance at least at the .05 level. This
provides an easy visualization which may be used for your own
strength/weakness statements.
--- Prints a sensitivity table for possible Learning Disability (LD)
consideration according to the Bond-Tinker formula, which is used in
many states by school psychologists: In Wisconsin, in order to
qualify for LD, average IQ must be demonstrated, by VIQ or PIQ >= 90
or FSIQ >= 85, and measured academic functioning at or below
(years in school x FSIQ x .5 ) = 50% delay. This does not print if
age is less than 8 years.
--- Factor Analysis (Major Factors and Supplementary Scores) according
to the method developed by Lutey.
Please note that, for the most part, interpretation is left to the
clinician. The program provides the numbers, you determine relevance,
if any.
I have specifically left out Kaufman's Shared Ability Analysis, because
in the hundreds of cases I have run, I can count on one hand the number
of times anything useful was ever generated.
I am also not including the Banas and Wills subtest comparison
paragraphs, as I have always felt nervous about their validity.

NOTE: When data entry is finished and you are ready to print, press return
or otherwise MOVE OFF the last data field entered, to ensure that it has
been accepted by the program.

Enjoy.
