  19.                Release 1.1 corrects a bug in the SP_MATH unit that
  20.           mishandled the input of an accent.  Accents don't appear often in
  21.           numbers, so this was not caught in testing and some users may not
  22.           have experienced it.  There was also an occasional problem with
  23.           the verb programs when using a configuration file.  While fixing
  24.           these, other improvements were made, many of which will be
  25.           transparent.  In addition, a special "Student Manual" has been
  26.           prepared that concentrates on the student-program interface and
  27.           ignores the machine.

  29.                Because this release corrects a genuine bug, it is being
  30.           sent free to all registered users and does not count as the
  31.           "significant upgrade" mentioned on the registration form.

  34.                                   MESSAGE FOR USERS

  36.               Doctor Yant's AdequateAnswers are dedicated to solutions
  37.               requiring the least hardware, useable by the most people.

  40.                A lot of the software that I see requires the best hardware
  41.           currently available.  It's fun to program for the best hardware
  42.           and it's fun to use that hardware, if you have it.  However, I
  43.           know that many times a program that requires VGA graphics and a
  44.           color monitor does not really need those things to do what it is
  45.           intended to do.  That means that those of us with monochrome
  46.           monitors, or LCD laptops, can't use those programs.  Other
  47.           programs that require a lot of memory or CPU speed probably could
  48.           have been written to require less, if the programmer felt the
  49.           need.

  51.                Deciding what is adequate for a particular purpose is not
  52.           easy.  It partly depends on assumptions about the hardware
  53.           available to users.  I suspect that I have undershot the mark.
  54.           There are a lot of bells and whistles that I can add in before my
  55.           programs become unuseable by anyone.  I am considering more on-
  56.           line help, for example, and more helpful screen displays.  The
  57.           tradeoff is that each pop-up window adds to the memory
  58.           requirement of the programs.

  60.                Registered users receive several small utilities that help
  61.           in the preparation and manipulation of vocabulary files.  So far,

  71.           I have resisted the urge to write a special editor for entering
  72.           vocabulary and verb files.  It wouldn't be difficult to prepare
  73.           something that would help in these tasks, and make it easier to
  74.           enter parts of speech into vocabulary files, for example, and to
  75.           be sure that there are the correct numbers of words on a line.
  76.           However, every time I think of this, I decide that the world
  77.           doesn't need another editor, there are so many that are perfectly
  78.           adequate.
