  71.  1.1 DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT

  73.      Users of Quiz Master must accept this disclaimer of
  74. warranty: " Quiz Master is supplied as is.  The author disclaims
  75. all warranties, expressed or implied, including, without
  76. limitation, the warranties of merchantability and of fitness for
  77. any purpose. The author assumes no liability for damages, direct
  78. or consequential, which may result from the use of Quiz Master."

  80.      Quiz Master is a "shareware program" and is provided at no
  81. charge to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with
  82. your friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part
  83. of another system.  The essence of "user-supported" software is
  84. to provide personal computer users with quality software without
  85. high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
  86. continue to develop new products.  If you find this program
  87. useful and find that you are using Quiz Master and continue to
  88. use Quiz Master after a reasonable trial period, you must make a
  89. registration payment of $49.95 to Hallandales Inc.  The $49.95
  90. registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
  91. computer at any one time.  You must treat this software just like
  92. a book.  An example is that this software may be used by any
  93. number of people and may be freely moved from one computer
  94. location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it
  95. being used at one location while it's being used at another. Just
  96. as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the same
  97. time.

  99.      Commercial users of Quiz Master must register and pay for
  100. their copies of Quiz Master within 30 days of first use or their
  101. license is withdrawn.  Site-License arrangements may be made by
  102. contacting Hallandales Inc..

  104.      Anyone distributing Quiz Master for any kind of remuneration
  105. must first contact Hallandales Inc. at the address on manual
  106. cover page for authorization. This authorization will be
  107. automatically granted to distributors recognized by the (ASP) as
  108. adhering to its guidelines for shareware distributors, and such
  109. distributors may begin offering Quiz Master immediately (However
  110. Hallandales Inc. must still be advised so that the distributor
  111. can be kept up-to-date with the latest version of Quiz Master.).

  137. 1.2  DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
  138.  
  139.     Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  140. before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
  141. using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
  142. differ on details -- some request registration while others
  143. require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  144. registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
  145. using the software to an updated program with printed manual.
  146.  
  147.      Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial
  148. software, and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few
  149. specific exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are
  150. accomplished programmers, just like commercial authors, and the
  151. programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are
  152. good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method
  153. of distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
  154. and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
  155. specific group. For example, some authors require written
  156. permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
  157. Shareware.

  159.     Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software.
  160. You should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
  161. whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
  162. fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.

  164. has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  165. product, you don't pay for it.

  203. 1.3  WHAT IS IT?
  204.  
  205.      Quiz Master is an examination preparation software program,
  206. but what is that?  To answer that question let's get down to
  207. basics.  How do we normally prepare an exam?
  208.  
  209.  To prepare an exam we have to perform the following steps :
  210.  
  211.  
  212.    1. Copy or compose and assemble a group of questions.
  213.  
  214.    2. Pick and choose the questions to be part of the exam.
  215.  
  216.    3. Type them up in the proper order and produce an answer key.
  217.  
  218.    4. Make multi-copies with a copy machine.
  219.  
  220.    5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 every time we need a new exam.
  221.  
  222.      The first thing we can do to alleviate this monumental task
  223. is to use a computer.  The computer loaded with a word processor
  224. helps us with step 1.  We can enter the questions once, keep them
  225. on disk and have instant access to them.  Steps 2 & 3 are still
  226. laborious tasks, because we must move and copy data to bring the
  227. selected questions together, plus we still have to produce an
  228. answer key.  If we add a printer, the computer can take care of
  229. step 4.

  231.      This is all very well but what happens if we want to give
  232. the same exam to the same group, but mix up the questions and
  233. answers so the exams are not all laid out the same.  The word
  234. processor helps a little, but doing anything special really
  235. requires a lot of work.

  237.      What can we do now to lessen our burden?  We have the
  238. computer, we have the word processor, we have the printer, but
  239. the one most important tool is missing.

  245.      Using our word processor we can enter Multiple-Choice,
  246. Essay, Fill-in or True-False questions and answers into what we

  249. bank is entered, Quiz Master does the rest.  (If you already have
  250. questions on a computer system, these can be used to build a
  251. question bank, there is no need to retype.)

  254. in minutes!  Questions can be in any order, chosen randomly or
  255. manually from 1 or more question banks and print 1 or more copies

  335. 1.5 TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
  336.  
  337.       QUIZ MASTER is a compiled TURBO PASCAL program using the
  338. following system requirements:
  339.  
  340.      IBM PC, XT, AT, PS 2, 386 (or compatible) with either high
  341. density (1.2 Meg or 1.4 Meg) double disk drives or a hard disk. 
  342. A hard drive is recommended.  512K RAM and MSDOS 2.2 or greater
  343. is required.  Using the program also requires a printer and a
  344. word processing program capable of producing an Ascii Text File
  345. (see Appendix A). 
  346.  
  347. 1.6 THE PROGRAM AND THE MANUAL
  348.  
  349.     Both the QUIZ MASTER program and manual are designed to be
  350. easy to use even for beginning computer users.
  351.  
  352.     The order of the program menu and the order of this manual
  353. follow the order of steps you will need to install the program on
  354. your computer, create your Question Bank(s) and print exams.
  355.  
  356.     Hard Drive users; all references are made to the C: drive, if
  357. you are using drive D: or E: please substitute.
  358.  
  359.     A word about the <Enter> key. When the manual indicates Type:
  360. ENTRY we assume that the <ENTER> key is to be pressed after you
  361. key in the entry. So always press the <Enter> key after an entry.

  363. 1.7  HELP & ERROR MESSAGES
  364.  
  365.     Valuable on-screen help is available to you throughout the
  366. program.  Look at the bottom of each screen for the help key, or
  367. look on the menus for the "Help" topic. There is extensive on
  368. screen help virtually eliminating the need for the manual once
  369. you become acquainted with Quiz Master.
  370.  
  371.      You will find the error messages in this system both
  372. friendly and helpful.  If you make an entry error (one that is
  373. not accepted by the system), your computer will beep and display
  374. a message window explaining the error.

  401. 1.8 USING THE KEYBOARD & MOUSE
  402.  
  403.      In all our programs, we want you to be able to learn the
  404. system quickly and easily without any frustrations. We have
  405. designed our programs so all you have to do is highlight and pick
  406. what you need to do with very little keyboard entry. For this, we
  407. highly recommend a mouse. Quiz Master is compatible with
  408. MicroSoft or MicroSoft Compatible mouse systems.
  409.  
  410. You can select menu topics 3 different ways.
  411.  
  412. 1. Move the highlight bar with the right, left, up, or down arrow
  413.    keys and press <ENTER> at the highlighted topic.
  414. 2. Press the highlighted capitol letter for your selection. Eg.
  415.    to select "Random Question Selection" just press the <R> key.
  416. 3. Use a mouse to highlight the selected topic, and press the
  417.    left button. The mouse set-up is left mouse button is the same
  418.    as pressing the <ENTER> key and the right mouse button is the
  419.    same as pressing the <ESC> key.
