  3. Welcome to PC-FASTYPE Version 3.01. PC-FASTYPE is designed for intermediate and
  4. advanced PC typists who want to improve their accuracy and speed on the
  5. computer keyboard of their choice, and for beginners who want to learn how to
  6. touch-type on the IBM family of microcomputers and compatibles.
  7.  
  8.                   How to use the HELP Facility in PC-FASTYPE
  9.                   ------------------------------------------
  10.      Read the line in color on the bottom of the screen.  These commands tell
  11. you how to page through the HELP screens.  The HELP Facility for each menu
  12. consists of four screen pages.  The page number is shown in the upper right
  13. corner of the screen.  Some clone PCs don't have the screen paging feature; if
  14. your system lacks screen paging, then use the BASIC program supplied with
  15. PC-FASTYPE to print out the HELP files on your printer. The User's Guide
  16. explains how.

  18.         - press the PgDn Key to advance to the NEXT screen page
  19.         - press the PgUp Key to go back to the PREVIOUS screen page
  20.         - press the ESC Key to exit HELP and re-display the menu
  21.         - press the HOME Key for page 1 or the END Key for page 4

  23.                 Now press the PgDn Key to go to screen page 2.

  27. The MAIN Menu is used to help you access the other primary menus in PC-FASTYPE.
  28. There are five menus for you to choose drills, exercises, keyboard helpers, and
  29. features, all controlled by the function keys on your keyboard.

  31.    ***  NO SELECTIONS CAN BE MADE FROM ANY HELP FACILITY IN PC-FASTYPE  ***

  33. You have to press the <ESC>ape Key to get out of the HELP Facility and return
  34. to the menu you came from in order for the function keys to become operable.
  35.  
  36. When any menu is displayed, pressing the F1 function key calls up the HELP
  37. Facility for that menu.  You're here because you pressed the F1 function key
  38. while the MAIN menu was displayed on the screen.  Additionally, the F9 function
  39. key will always cause the MAIN Menu to be displayed,  and pressing F10 will
  40. always begin a new drill or exercise; F10 must ALWAYS BE PRESSED FIRST to
  41. start typing practice.  The rest of the Main Menu selections follow:

  43. [ F2 ] - Display the BEGINNER DRILLS Menu - (Learning the keyboard)
  44.        Press this function key if you want to display and select drills from
  45. the Beginners Menu.  The Beginners Menu lets you select the letters, symbols,
  46. numbers, and Capital letters, or combinations of them that you want to learn
  47. how to type.

  51. [ F3 ] - Display the INTERMEDIATE EXERCISES Menu - (Typing word groups)
  52.        This menu has intermediate typist selections of word groups to practice
  53. typing.  These selections consist of three letter and four letter word groups
  54. and short phrases.
  55.  
  56. [ F4 ] - Display the ADVANCED EXERCISES Menu - (Typing sentences)
  57.        This menu is for intermediate and advanced typists. You can select
  58. various exercises containing sentences, and paragraphs that test your
  59. skills at typing all of the letters and characters on the keyboard.

  61. [ F5 ] - Display the KEYBOARD HELPERS Menu
  62.        This menu lets you select and set up some keyboard helpers to assist you
  63. with your typing such as outlining the home keys, selecting the hidden key
  64. option, sounding the speaker when you make a keystroke error, etc.  Most of
  65. these options can be "toggled" on or off by pressing the function keys.

  67. [ F6 ] - Select Beginning Typist Skill Level
  68.        Pressing this key will select the beginning typist level.  That is, the
  69. prompting rhythm for you to type characters will be rather slow. This skill
  70. level stays in effect for all drills and exercises until you change it with F7
  71. or F8 (next page).

  75. [ F7 ] - Select Intermediate Typist Skill Level
  76.        This is a nice, easy prompting rhythm for the intermediate typist;
  77. probably good for beginners too.  This is the default skill level automatically
  78. selected when you started PC-FASTYPE.
  79.  
  80. [ F8 ] - Select Advanced Typist Skill Level, 60 WPM and up
  81.        This is for speed demons. You may want to turn off the sound (QUIET
  82. Mode - Menu 5) as things get pretty noisy.  When typing predefined lessons,
  83. try to stay ahead of the delayed prompt.
  84.  
  85. [ F9 ] - Exit to DOS
  86.        When you get tired of typing practice,  you can press this key to exit
  87. PC-FASTYPE and return to the DOS Operating System.
  88.  
  89. [ F10 ] - START a Drill or Exercise
  90.         Display the Screen Keyboard and begin any previously selected
  91. drill or exercise.  If nothing was selected, you will be drilled on the HOME
  92. keys only, which is the default selection.
