--------------------------
Version 1.40

Last updated: July, 1991
This document assumes that you are working with the distribution disk
received when you registered your SwimBase package. If you have the
evaluation version then refer to SETUP.DOC
For a Hard Disk System:
From the root directory 'C:\'
1) MKDIR C:\SWIMDATA (or substitute your drive letter for
the C in the path name. The
subdirectory name SWIMDATA can be
anything you are comfortable with.)
2) CD C:\SWIMDATA (or your new subdirectory name)
3) Put distribution disk in floppy drive A:
4) COPY A:\*.*
5) Start program by typing SWIM
If you update the PATH statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT
file to include the directory created in step 1 then you will
be able to start and run SwimBase from any prompt by typing
SWIM. If you do not then you will need to change directory
(CD) to the C:\SWIMDATA before starting SwimBase.
If you prefer to keep your program files in one directory
and your data files in another you can do this by putting the
SWIM.EXE and EVENT.DTA files in your program directory and
creating a seperate data directory. This data directory can be
any legitimate DOS directory name. Once you start SwimBase you
will need to use the Set or Change Defaults option to set the
data directory.
For a dual floppy disk system:
This setup assumes either 2 low density 5 1/4" 360K
floppies or a desire to use seperate program and data
floppies.
1) Obtain 2 blank floppies. Format 1 and label it as the
SwimBase data files. Label the second as the SwimBase
program files.
2) Make a DISKCOPY of the distribution disk and then use
that disk to run the program.
3) DISKCOPY A: A: (follow the prompts, use the SwimBase
program disk as the destination)
4) Put the original in a safe place.
5) Put the Program files disk in drive A: and the data files
disk in drive B:.
6) Start the program by typing A:\SWIM.
7) Answer N to 'Directory Open Failure' requestor.
8) Enter a path (directory) for the data disk, 'B:\SWIMDATA'
is recommended
9) Be sure the data disk is in drive B: and press return.
10) Press Y to create directory.
11) When program starts select 'Set or Change Defaults' and
enter the directory from step 8 as the data PATH default.
12) Each time you are ready to use the program place the
program disk in drive A: and the data disk in drive B:
and then type A:\SWIM.
For a single floppy system:
Use this setup for a single floppy system or if you wish
to keep both program and data files on the same disk. Note
that to keep all files on the same disk it must have a minimum
capacity of 720K.
1) Obtain a blank floppy and make a copy of the original
program disk.
2) DISKCOPY A: A:
3) Put the original in a safe place.
4) Put the copy in drive A: and start the program by
entering A:\SWIM
5) Answer N to 'Directory Open Failure' requestor.
6) Enter a path (directory) for the data disk, 'A:\SWIMDATA'
is recommended
7) Press return in response to the 'Place Data disk in
Drive' requestor.
10) Press Y to create directory.
11) When program starts select 'Set or Change Defaults' and
enter the directory from step 6 as the data PATH default.
12) Each time you are ready to use the program place the disk
in drive A: enter A:\SWIM
