SO you want info on new products huh?
Clipper went to beta Last week, look for release in 2-4 months.
1) Yes it supports dBASE III index files.
They will work slightly slower than .ntx files during creation and updating
and may not be shared on a network.
This feature is invoked by linking in a module called NDX.OBJ
2) So far in our testing of all those things that Foxbase USED to be faster
at, we soundly trounce them, by enough so that even with their announced
speed increase in V2.0 we should still be faster.
Indexing is 2-3 times faster
Sorting is 2-3 times faster
3) Some of the new features
SET TYPEHEAD works
SET ORDER works
SET MESSAGE TO <expN> [CENTER] && will cause the messages to be centered
REPORT and LABEL are now Clipper .prg files and may be compiled and linked
with your application
There is now access to DOS file handles.
There is now support for many open files with DOS 3.3 (245 I think)
McMax Is not a Clipper for the Mac but is a dBASE for the Mac. with some but
not all of the Clipper extentions.
It is currently in Beta and as soon as the manual is finished it will be in
the stores. It is very fast, The PM keeps saying "as fast as Clipper on
an AT", but not having a Mac I can not say. It can use the following dBASE
files; .prg, .fmt, .lbl and .frm; I believe it can even use them on a PC's
drive across TOPS, but not shared with the PC.
All of this info, Clipper and McMax, is preliminary and subject to change.
