Mr. Label v5.2
QUESTIONS
These are some questions that occur most frequently. If you're
having problems, first do an F1:Clear/Reset before printing from
a list or creating or retrieving a format. Printer commands may
be resident within the printer or the CPI may not be 10. Check
your settings - especially the Margin and Width.
Q.- When printing 3 across from a list, why do I get uneven or
slanted columns?
A.- Uneven columns usually occur because the column width you
entered in the Across Menu was too large for your paper size.
This causes the printer to line wrap your text because it can't
get all 3 columns on one line. For 3 across labels on a standard
80 column page, the column width must be set to 26 or less
(3x26=78). Otherwise the printer will wrap text to the next
line. Mr. Label automatically sets the across column width
according to the # Across and for an 80 column page. If the
column spacing is not correct for your label stock you'll have to
change the # across value.
Q.- When printing from a list why do all addresses after the
first one print all jumbled - they're interspersed with blank
lines?
A.- Blank lines can occur for several reasons:
1. Because your settings are out of sync with the number of label
lines in your list. If each label in the list is 5 lines, then
the Start and Stop settings must span 5 lines. In other words,
you need to grab 5 lines at a time from the list.
2. When you originally created the list, Spaces was not set to
zero. This put blank lines in the list after every label and
you're not accounting for this when you read the list.
3. All the labels in your list do not have the same number of
lines. All labels in the list must be the same number of lines.
Q.- I created a list (List1.lst) yesterday and now I want to add
more labels to it. If I select "Print to a File" and specify the
same file name, the program says the file will be over-written
(erased). How do I add more names to my list?
A.- There are 3 ways.
1. Read the LIST1.LST into the Editor and simply type more names
in at the end of the file. Save the file when done typing.
2. Create a new file LIST2.LST at "F3:Print to a File" and type
your names. Then, in the Editor, read in LIST1.LST, go to the
end of the file, read in the second list LIST2.LST. Save the
combined list to a new file.
3. Use the DOS append command to join 2 lists together.
Q.- Text does not print correctly on my sheet laser labels.
A.- Your Laser printer requires that you send setup commands to
tell it the page size. It defaults to 60 printable lines per
page and that's entirely wrong for many laser label sheets. See
"Setup Commands" in the manual. Also, the Lines and Spaces
settings must be set by you before typing your labels.
Q.- Why doesn't the program offer menu selectable fonts or a
printer driver for my Yentomato laser printer?
A.- Printer drivers only support hardware in existence when the
software was written. And, there is no way any driver can
support the wide variety of 3rd party font cartridges. Mr. Label
supports all printer hardware and all font cartridges. You can
easily design your own intelligent drivers by creating custom
printing formats with embedded font commands. It's a simple
method and it works.
Q.- Text does not center properly on my laser labels.
A.- Make sure you're using a Fixed font and not a Proportional
font. Only Fixed fonts print a standard number of characters per
inch.
Q.- How can I print just one label 3 across? I need 1000 copies
of the label.
A.- To print 2 or more across you must print from a list file.
Simply make 3 copies of your label in the Editor. Set Copies to
333 and Select "F3:Read List from File". Enter the name of your
list and Select 3 across.
Q.- What is the Postnet Bar Code?
A.- The US Postal Service has installed equipment that will read
a postal barcode from the address block. You may receive reduced
postage rates on batches of barcoded mail. Check with the Post
Office to get more information - please don't call us. Mr. Label
prints the Postnet barcode and this feature alone can pay back the cost of this software very quickly.
Q.- Mr. Label won't print some fonts from my barcode cartridge
onto a label. The problem also occurs when trying to print
landscape on envelopes in several fonts.
A.- If your printer has only 512K of memory then that is your
problem. Also, rotating fonts to landscape takes a lot of
memory. By the way, you can buy HP memory at about 1/2 the price
that some Hewlett Packard dealers charge. Check some computer
publications for advertisements.
Q.- Can I print the Postnet barcode directly onto envelopes with
my laser printer?
A.- Not if the envelopes must be printed in landscape mode. The
software does not rotate the barcode. You can print onto laser
labels.
Q.- Do you market any other programs?
A.- We also sell a program on Mineral Identification called
Mineral Mastery. The user can identify minerals by making an
inquiry based on known physical attributes of a specimen. It has
lots of nice features. This program is targeted toward the
geology student, rock collector, and the hobbyist. It's
available as Shareware.
