  11.          Methodology for updating your version: [hard disks only]
  12.                  if your version is version 2.645 or after
  13.  
  14. This  update  methodology  assumes that you are updating from  ANY  earlier 
  15. version  of IN-CONTROL [TM] that has the ability to AUTOMATICALLY  back  up 
  16. your data when you exit the program.

  18. This  update  methodology  assumes that you are updating from  ANY  earlier 
  19. version  of IN-CONTROL [TM] that has the ability to AUTOMATICALLY  back  up 
  20. your data when you exit the program. 
  21.  
  22. Make  a  backup  of the data for IN-CONTROL [TM] by  exiting  your  current 
  23. version of the program and selecting the backup function.   Once out of the 
  24. program,  enter 'BACKUP' from your hard drive to place today's current data 
  25. onto a data disk reserved for this purpose.  Place a write-protect tab onto 
  26. that  disk and,  if space permits,  create a second  subdirectory:  '\ACS'.  
  27. Then copy EVERYTHING from '\PROSPECT' to '\ACS'.    Once done, delete every 
  28. file  in  '\PROSPECT' and then delete the directory entry itself with  this 
  29. command:
  30.                               RMDIR PROSPECT
  31.  
  32. Observe  the  files on your data disk,  where the backup up data  is  kept.   
  33. Let's say the file containing today's backup is:  '0520ACS.ARC'  This means 
  34. that you performed the backup on month '05', day '20', or May 20th.  
  35.  
  36. Take the new version of IN-CONTROL [TM] and install it onto your hard drive 
  37. as  per  the instructions in 'GO' and 'GO2' on the  floppy  masters.   Once 
  38. installed,  the  program  will ask you to restart the  computer,  and  then 
  39. execute 'GO'.  This 'GO' will then drive the program, PROSPECT.EXE.

  41. Once  you are in the program,  observe that you are in the 'Test Data,'  as 
  42. identified in the Main Program Menu.   Upon seeing '== Test Data ==' on the 
  43. Main Program Menu, exit the program altogether and perform these two steps:

  45.    NEW1REAL    <=========== you type this, follow by 'Enter'
  46.    ARCE A:0520ACS.ARC  /R   <======== you type this, followed by 'Enter'
  47.                               [you adjust the '0520' portion for the
  48.                                actual date: '05' is May, '20' is 20th day]
  49.  
  50. This  will take all of your data from the most recent backup and restore it 
  51. to your hard drive.

  55. Execute  'GO'   from your subdirectory.   The program will again  lead  you 
  56. through  the  installation process.    The 'NEW1REAL' command  you  entered 
  57. earlier  has  forced the program to reinstall.   Once you  go  through  the 
  58. installation menus again, the program will ask you to reboot or restart the 
  59. system.   At  this point,  ignore that restart message and invoke 'GO' from 
  60. the  subdirectory.   You should be greeted as a Registered User.   If  not, 
  61. repeat  this  entire  process  ONCE.  If  you  are  still  not  greeted  as 
  62. Registered, then call me.

  64. Retain  the  subdirectory '\ACS' for a few days until you are certain  that 
  65. the upgrade in '\PROSPECT' was successful.  Once you are satisfied of that, 
  66. delete everything in '\ACS'.

  70.       [convert from earlier version if hard drive or 2 floppy based]

  72. Copy all files ending in the letters 'DBF' and 'DBT',  if any,  to a floppy 
  73. disk on drive A.  Place a write protect tab on that disk.  This is now your 
  74. 'Backup'  disk.   If  you have a subdirectory  called  '\PROSPECT',  delete 
  75. everything  in  that  directory  and then the directory  itself  with  this 
  76. command:

  78.                                RMDIR PROSPECT

  80. Take the new version of IN-CONTROL [TM] and install it onto your hard drive 
  81. as  per  the instructions in 'GO' and 'GO2' on the  floppy  masters.   Once 
  82. installed,  the  program  will ask you to restart the  computer,  and  then 
  83. execute 'GO'.  This 'GO' will then drive the program, PROSPECT.EXE.

  91.    COPY A:*.DBT [if any]      [you enter this against the data backup 
  92.                                disk, or SALES-A, the data disk used in 
  93.                                a two floppy installation.
