WELCOME TO THE FASTZIP PROGRAM
By
Westcoast Software
The United States Postal Department is now using Optical Scanners to
speed up their mail processing. Their scanners now read the Zip Code
you put with the address and their own equipment prints a Postnet
Bar Code on the envelope. This requires a two step operation for
them. If the Postnet Bar Code is already on the envelope it requires
only a one step operation. The Postal Department is now or will be
offering a Discount on First Class Mail that already has the Bar
Code printed on it. The present equipment available to do this costs
$4000. This program will print the Postnet Bar Code on Envelopes,
Post Cards, Shipping Labels and Address Labels. At the present time
the Bar Code MUST be printed in a specific area on the Envelope,
(12/19/90). The Postal Department estimates that by the fall of 1991
the Bar Code can be printed any place on the envelope and their
optical scanners will still read the code. When this happens it will
enable you to put the Bar Code on Shipping Labels and Address Labels
in addition to the Envelopes.
The Fastzip Program is already programed to place the Bar Code on
Shipping and Address Labels although you need a special code to
activate them which will be supplied when you register. Notice the
Bar Codes on the mail you are now receiving. The Return Payment
envelopes have the Bar Code on them to speed up their return. If you
are in business you can now have these same benefits with the
Fastzip Program. Enter an R in the notice at the beginning of the
Fastzip Program to print out a registration form. Thank you!

Save, and Print your own Labels and Post Cards. Use the DOS PRINT
Command to print out these instructions.
Note! The Bar Code must be black for the Optical Scanners to read
it. We have programmed FASTZIP to print the Bar Code and then
reprint the Bar Code over again to achieve the blackness required
even from older printer ribbons. We do however suggest that you use
a fresh ribbon when possible.
PRINTER/BAR CODE
If your Printer will not print the Bar Code on the bottom of single
Envelopes even with the Paper Out Sensor disabled and you would
still like to test out the Bar Code then do the following:
Go to the <SET UP> section from the Main Menu and adjust prompts
7, 8, 9, 12 like the following:
7. Line Spaces Between Envelopes: 2
8. Envelope Size Adjustment (Upper): 0
9. Envelope Size Adjustment (Lower): 0
12. Spaces to Align Zip Bar (Envelope): 0
Your Printer will now print the Postnet Bar Code on regular
3 1/2 x 15/16 Address Labels. It will print the Bar Code on one
label then skip two labels and print again. You will lose two
labels for every one printed but it will give you a chance to
test your printer and Bar Code. Place the Address Label with the
Bar Code on it at the bottom of your return or regular envelopes
the same as if it was printed there.
