The Facilitate Exchange Bulletin Board System (FEBBS)
FEBBS provides a continual means to communicate with other FACILITATE users and
the developers of FACILITATE. In addition, software updates may be obtained
via FEBBS. We have provided copies of the first 6 bulletins posted on FEBBS
to give you an idea of some of the services offered. Also included below is a
listing of the files (downloadable) library directories.
Note that we actively encourage suggestions for product enhancements, and that
user developed forms, reports, software, codes, etcetera may be uploaded to
FEBBS and shared with other users.
===============================================================================
Bulletin #1: Facilitate Exchange Bulletin Board System (FEBBS)
--------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to Facilitate Exchange. This electronic bulletin board system (BBS)
provides a continual user group meeting for all FACILITATE users. You will
find many useful features of the Exchange, for example:
- Technical support via Comments to Sysop
- Sharing ideas on how to best utilize and enhance the
features of FACILITATE with other users
- Downloading updates and enhancements directly to your computer
- Exchanging data files (such as CODES) with other users
- Putting a question on the General Mail system to everyone and
getting a number of ideas from other users and the Sysop
We look forward to your comments and activities on the Facilitate Exchange.
Sincerely,
Harry Herrmann and Al Kuntz
Your FEBBS Sysops

Bulletin #2: The (F)iles Sub-system on FEBBS
---------------------------------------------
The Files Sub-System of FEBBS allows you to copy files from FEBBS to your
computer (Download) or from your computer to FEBBS (Upload). The files
sub-system is arranged into a number of file categories such as FACILITATE
Updates, Utility Files for Networks, etcetera. You can download these files
and get FACILITATE software updates as they become available. You can also
share files that you create with other FEBBS users by uploading them, or
conversely download files containing useful applications, forms, reports or
data created by other users.
The files uploaded by FACILITATE, Inc. are provided in ZIP format. These
files should be downloaded "as is", however, they must be Unzipped prior to
use. For an explanation of the ZIP file format see Bulletin #3.
Unzipping is accomplished using PKWare, see Bulletin #4 for details.

===============================================================================
Bulletin #3: Explanation of ZIPped Files
-----------------------------------------
Files available for downloading from FEBBS are stored in ZIP format. This is
the case for two reasons: (Unzip files using PKWARE - See Bulletin #4)
1. ZIP files are compressed and are typically 75% smaller than a file in its
normal useable format. File transfer by modem is slow. By ZIPping the
file tranfer time is greatly reduced.
2. On many occasions a download consists of many files. For example, a
typical FACILITATE software update consists of 20 files. A ZIP file
can contain multiple files. When the file is unzipped, the original
set of files is recreated. Downloading and unzipping 1 file is far simpler
than downloading 20 files. ALWAYS LOOK FOR AND READ THE README FILE AFTER
UNZIPPING. Use the DOS DIR command in the form DIR READ*.* to find these
since the file(s) may be named READ.ME, README, README.NOW, README.BBS, etc.

===============================================================================
Bulletin #4: How to get and use PKWARE
---------------------------------------
PKWARE is a set of utility files which are used to create ZIP format files and
to Unzip files which are in ZIP format. PKWARE may be downloaded from the
FEBBS Files Sub-System, Files Group 5: Utility Files - DOS and General.
After downloading PKZ102.EXE, create a directory on your hard disk for this
software. We suggest naming the directory PKWARE. Copy PKZ102.EXE to this
directory. Now type PKZ102 [Enter], and the file will unzip itself into
multiple files. (The PKZ102.EXE file may be deleted from this directory since
it will not be used again, although you should keep a backup copy of this file
in the event that you need to re-install PKWARE.) The file MANUAL.DOC contains
the instructions for use of the software. This file is ASCII, thus you may use
the copy command (COPY MANUAL.DOC LPT1 [Enter]) to print the manual, or you may
retrieve the file as ASCII (or DOS TEXT) with your word processor.

===============================================================================
Bulletin #5: Electronic Mail and Comment to Sysop
--------------------------------------------------
The E-Mail System provided with FEBBS is useful for communicating ideas or
questions to other users of FACILITATE and FACILIMIN. The HELP system
provides instructions for the use of both MAIL and Comments to Sysop.
Generally speaking, E-Mail should be used for the majority of your communication
on FEBBS. The Comment to SYStem OPerator feature allows you to speak directly
to the SYSOP without your comments being read by other users. We suggest you
use this feature if you have ideas or concerns regarding FEBBS which you do
not feel you wish to share as "public".
The founders of FACILITATE, Inc. act as the SYSOPs for FEBBS. We appreciate
your active participation. We both review Comments to Sysop and check our
E-Mail regularly.
