************************************************
DUPES! locates all duplicate records in databases created by PC-FILE III
(versions 3 & 4) and PC-FILE/R (version 1.0), and provides the user with
three options for processing these records once they are found:
1. Deletion of duplicate records in the dame manner as PC-FILE.
2. Marking each duplicate record by placing a "@" character in the first
position of a user specified field.
3. Listing the duplicate record numbers to either an ASCII text file on disk
or to the printer.
DUPES! can be used to interactively from the keyboard OR it can be run by
entering program parameters from DOS command line. This feature allows DUPES!
to be incorporated into batch file processing for unattended or automatic
operation.

INTRODUCTION
DUPES! is easy to operate and requires minimal user input.
The prompts, and the order in which they appear are listed below.
Typical responses are shown. For a full explanation of each choice read the
following sections.
1. Enter letter of drive containing PC-FILE database files:
-Any letter from a-z in upper or lower case.
2. Enter path names to database (optional if not needed)
3. Enter database name:
-Name of database you want DUPES! to check.
4. Delete, Mark, List or Quit?
- D, M, L, or Q. See next section for explanation.
5. Select field to use for record comparison (enter 99 for whole record):
-Enter the number corresponding to the field of your choice as listed on
the screen.
-If the compare is to be based on the whole record, enter 99 and press
return.
-For DUPES! to work properly the whole database MUST be already sorted!
If you chose a field for compare then the database must be sorted on
that field previously.
6. Select field to mark :
-This option is presented only if you choose MARK the duplicate records.
-Enter the number corresponding to the field of choice.
7. DUPES! lists all your choices for a final review before it goes to work.
Enter the letter "y" to continue, or the letter "n" to start over.
8. You can stop DUPES! with "Ctrl-Break"

COMMAND LINE OPERATION
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
DUPES /drive:\path\filename /DR,MR,LD,LP /F,R /Keyfiled /Markfield
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Command line format: Parameters must be entered in the same order as
above and may be separated by any number of spaces. Each
parameter must be preceded by the slash "/" character.
/DR/MR/LD/LP - only one of these parameters is allowed, where:
DR = Delete duplicate records
MR = Mark duplicate records
LD = List duplicates to disk file
LP = List duplicates to Printer (LPT1:, PRN)
/R or /R - only one of the parameters are used, where:
F = compare records based on chosen field.
R = compare based on whole record.
/Keyfield - Name of the PC-FILE database filed to use for
comparing records if the /F parameter was chosen.
/Markfield - Name of the PC-FILE database field to mark if the /M
parameter was chosen.
The rule for the command line is: if a slash parameter calls for a field
name be sure to include it, otherwise keep all extra information off the
command line.

Automation Tip:
You can make DUPES! automatic by including it in a batch file.
Consider the following:
PCFILE /drive,B:/file,MAILIST/keyin,SOR[13]PHONE[13]A[13]B[13]Q[13]
DUPES /B:MAILIST/LP/F/PHONE
Above file calls PC-FILE, sorts the database on PHONE field on
drive B: by number in ascending order. Then it makes DUPES! check for
duplicate records using the same PHONE field for comparison, and lists
the duplicate record numbers to the printer.
Remember:
You must sort the database before using DUPES!!!! If there have been
any records modified since last using DUPES! the database must be re-
sorted before DUPES! use again. If comparing based on whole record the
database must be sorted prior on at least one field.
Forward ideas and suggestions plus bugs to Reflections Software. There are
future developments being planned already.
