Overview
"Cong" is a congressional database and automatic
correspondence generator. It allows you to locate
Senate and House members by name, state, district,
party, body, committee, subcommittee, etc. Once
located, contact and other information is available.
To generate correspondence, the internal editor
is be used. Members can be tagged (to receive
a letter, note or invitation) on most screens. The
correspondence properly addressed, is automatically
generated by "Cong" for each tagged member. Mailing
labels may also be generated, or windowed envelopes
may be used for mailing.

Letter code: Enter a letter code for this letter
Description: Enter a free text description of the letter
Text: Then write the text of the letter in the white space,
beginning on the very first avilable line. "Cong" writes the "Dear"
line and a blank line automatically. It also writes the stationery
header and the signature lines. You only provide the actual text
of the letter. Print one on blank paper to see what it does.
When in the letter text, press F1 for Help on edit keys.
Enter to save. Esc to exit without saving.
"Cong" doesn't do mailing labels. It is setup to use
windowed envelopes that show the members name and address on the
letter through the window. These envelopes are available from us
or most any office supply store.
4(Enter for more)
To set the letter header and other lines, go to the
utility menu from the main menu. Then select user data.
If you want to use your own stationery, just make the
header lines blank.

Plans
We plan to include the following data in "Cong":
- Member voting records
- Member biographies
- Staff personnel data
- Various member ratings, e.g. Chamber of Commerce
ratings, AFL/CIO ratings, etc.
- Committee staff and contact information
- Multiple tag lists and a letter log to track
previous mailings
Additional data will be added based on popular demand.
A BBS is currently being setup to facilitate rapid

Printing letters and labels:
1. Set defaults under the Main Menu/Utilities/User data.
2. The use of windowed envelopes is recommended. You can order
envelopes from us.
3. Note that you can set the label spacing and the number of blank
lines at the top. If you generate labels with other software,
you probably should run a label list to a file and use the file
with your software.
4. If you don't like the form of the letter, like your name at the
top, then just leave those fields blank in the Utilities/User
data area and add what you like within the letter text.

This is a work area for developing my tooic look-ups.
The user will pick a topic and a sub-topic. She will
then be shown a list of members involved with the
tpoic(s). After deiting the list, a letter can be
written to all.
This menu choice is in work. However, it is one of the
most unique and important features of Cong. It will allow
members of congress to be identified by topic. Thus, for
example, one could automatically send a formal letter to
all "anti-choice" members of congress. Boolean logic is
build in, so member selection can be narrowed, e.g. pro
civil rights AND involved in appropriations AND pro-life,
for example.
This menu gives access to certain semi-permanent
data. The capability to update member data and
committee membership data is limited to users designated
to help keep that data current.
