CJC is a customized database program used for creating 'J Cards'
to be inserted into an audio cassette tape case. I wrote this program
because the other programs of this type were unsuitable for my needs.
Other programs inaccurately titled as 'Label' programs deceived me and wasted
my time downloading them! The index cards that are inserted in audio cassette
norelco type cases are known in the industry as 'J Cards'. The 'label' is the
pressure sensitive label attached on the cassette itself. THIS PROGRAM PRINTS
J-CARDS, NOT LABELS.
CJC is very easy to use! Selections from the main menu can be made
with the cursor keys or by pressing the first letter of the selection name.
The first time you run CJC you should configure your printer by picking
'CONFIGURE YOUR PRINTER from the main menu. If your printer is capable of
printing the IBM extended Ascii character set, pick IBM COMPATIBLE as your
printer otherwise pick EPSON COMPATIBLE. (The IBM printouts are nicer than
the EPSON printouts) You will next be asked which port your printer is
connected to. (LPT1,LPT2,LPT3,COM1, and COM2 are supported.) Then you will
be asked to enter the code to force your printer into condensed print.
(15 default) Finally, you will be asked the code to turn condensed print off.
(18 default) If you are in doubt of these codes, try the defaults and if it
doesn't work check your printer manual.
When you get to the main menu there are 7 choices:
Selection 1, "ADD A RECORD TO THE DATABASE", you will proceed
through a series of three data entry screens. The first screen asks for
the date of the recording, what type of noise reduction is used (if any),
the type of tape bias, tape number, notes, and the titles for Sides A and B.
See the available editing commands on the 3rd page of this doc.
*NOTE* The tape number field was added for users who like to have their tapes
numbered. The default value when adding a record is the database
record number but you may enter any number you wish up to 9999.
The next two screens that you will see are almost the same. They
allow for the entering of the titles for the individual tracks of the
cassette. You will have a total of 24 lines of 33 characters each, for
both Side A and Side B. The first 12 lines will print on the exposed
portion of the j-card, and the last 12 lines will print on the portion
that is folded back. There is no required format for these lines. They
are free form text limited to 33 characters each field.
*Note* There are a couple sample records included. You can, of course,
delete them.
Selection 2, "BROWSE RECORDS" will allow you to go through each
record of that database. You will be prompted whether you want to
Continue, Edit, Delete, Print, go Back one record or Quit the browse mode.
*NOTE* Selections on the bottom of the screen can be made with the cursor
keys or by pressing the first letter of the selection. [PgDn] to
view other data area.
Selection 3, "CONFIGURE PRINTER" will take you to the printer
configuration area as mentioned earlier.
Selection 4, "DIFFERENT DATABASE" will let you change to a different
database or you can create, erase, or delete a database.
Selection 5, "LOCATE RECORD(S) will prompt you to enter a
search string. ALL FIELDS or just the Number field can be
searched and you will be prompted at the first record that matches.
You can Edit the record, Print the record, Delete the record, Quit to main
menu, or continue searching until you accept a match, or no more matches
exist. You may enter your selection using either upper or lower case.
CJC is not case sensitive. CJC will match any portion of the data when all
fields are searched, whether at the beginning, middle, end, or find
the tape number that you enter. (If it exists)
Selection 6, "SORT DATABASE" will sort the database by the field
you select in either ascending or descending order.
Selection 7, "QUIT PROGRAM" is pretty much self explanatory.
* NOTE * WHEN PRINTING A RECORD, I DON'T FORCE YOUR PRINTER INTO
CONDENSED (17 PITCH) MODE (Required for a J Card).
CONDENSED PRINT is the default choice when picking PRINT from the
Browse, Search or Edit mode but you may want to put you printer in
condensed print manually. I also DO NOT send a form feed after
the printout! (I HATE WHEN PROGRAMS DO THAT!) This version will
let your print to an ascii file so you can edit the J Card with
your favorite word processor or desktop publishing program. You
be prompted for the filename and the file extension will be CJC.
(e.g REBA.CJC) When printing is complete, cut the J-Card out
with a scissors and fold it at the double lines. You can insert
it into the audio case by itself or simply put it around the
original J-Card! The J-Card only take half the width of a standard
sheet of paper. You can flip the paper over and get at least two
J-Cards out of one sheet of paper.
CJC is being distributed using an unique marketing technique known
as Shareware. The term shareware means that you try the program before you
buy it. If you find it useful, you pay a small fee ($19.95), which entitles
you to several additional benefits.
If you decide that CJC will be of use to you, see ORDERFRM.DOC for
ordering details. You will receive the most recent REGISTERED version,
and full user support.
CJC is copyright (C)1990. The user may make copies of the
shareware version of this program and freely distribute those copies
for other users to try the program, on the condition that the documents
accompany all copies distributed, and that no modifications to CJC occur.
REGISTERED VERSIONS SHOULD NOT BE COPIED EXCEPT FOR BACKUP PURPOSES.
*NOTE* Version 2.0 lets you have the ability to have multiple databases!
You can pass the database desired at the command line! (e.g. CJC OLDIES)
