  3. ---> Why Use Audio Master 1.0?

  5. If you're anything like me, your music collection is probably
  6. getting out of control with lots of CD's, LP's, tapes - even VHS
  7. Hi-Fi.    My own lack of organization has been the cause of a number
  8. problems.  After living with this for long enough, I decided to
  9. write a cataloging program which solves these problems.     But I
  10. didn't want to make it so that it would only work with my current
  11. music media, then be obsolete if I added DAT or VHS Hi-Fi.  I also
  12. didn't want to require entering song titles if all I really needed
  13. was album titles.

  15. After much experimentation to make the program powerful, practical
  16. and flexible enough to use productively, "Audio Master" was born.
  17. I believe it to be truly unique because it's a program which will
  18. simplify keeping track of your music collection while being
  19. flexible enough to be used in the way that's best for you.

  23. For those of you who want to start up "Audio Master" without
  24. looking at the documentation, you should have no problems as the
  25. program is almost self-explanatory.  A couple of notes first:
  26.  
  27. Important!  Because "Audio Master" opens a number of files
  28. during operation, make sure your CONFIG.SYS file contains the
  29. following:
  30.  
  31.      FILES = 25        <--- Must be at least 25.  If you get a
  32.              "too many files" error when the program
  33.              first loads, make the number of files
  34.              greater than 25.
  35.  
  36. If you have any other problems starting the program (we've seen it
  37. only in rare cases), read Section 4.2 in the manual for some hints.

  39. ---> System Organization
  40.  
  41. Because "Audio Master" was designed expressly to be practical and
  42. easy to use, there are a minimum number of menus required to access
  43. all of its functions.  Basically, the system is set up with one
  44. main menu from which almost everything is accomplished - in fact,
  45. there are only two sub-menus (one for reports and one for
  46. utilities).

  48. Generally, "Audio Master" works like this:
  49.  
  50.      a)      Pick an option from the main menu by highlighting it
  51.       using the arrow keys and pressing "Enter".
  52.  
  53.      b)      Anytime you need to choose something (such as an artist,
  54.       category, media, etc.) a table listing will be presented
  55.       from which to choose, again, by highlighting it using the
  56.       arrow keys.

  58.      c)      When a table listing is shown, records can be edited by
  59.       pressing the "Enter" key, added by pressing the "Insert"
  60.       key or deleted by pressing the "Delete" key.    The system
  61.       will automatically not allow some kinds of deletions to
  62.       insure data integrity.

  64.      d)      Default values are used whenever possible to speed data
  65.       entry.

  67.      e)      On-line help is always available just by pressing "F1".

  69. ---> Distribution Method and Registration

  71. We at Valueware! are great believers in the shareware distribution
  72. channel.  But we are also realists.  Therefore, the shareware
  73. version of "Audio Master" will not allow adding more than 25
  74. titles.     Other than this one limitation, the system is completely
  75. operational.  This many records should be enough for you to
  76. evaluate "Audio Master," determine that it's a great program to
  77. manage your music collection and make a purchase decision.

  79. But, instead of you sending us the license fee and then we copy and
  80. send disks through the mail, we think we've got a better and easier
  81. way.  Since you have most likely downloaded "Audio Master" from
  82. some type of BBS, you must have a modem and are comfortable with
  83. the process of downloading software.  So we'll take advantage of
  84. that.  To receive the fully-operational version of "Audio Master,"
  85. just follow these simple instructions:

  87.      1)      Complete the Registration Form (Appendix A).
  88.  
  89.      2)      Send the completed registration form along with a check
  90.       or money order for $19.95 (plus $1.40 sales tax for Ohio
  91.       residents only) to:

  97.      3)      Allow one (1) week, then call the Valueware! BBS on:

  102.       used on the registration form and follow the special
  103.       instructions to download the latest, fully-operational
  104.       version of "Audio Master."

  106. By using this distribution procedure, we can minimize the
  107. administrative process, cut down on the hazards of mailing disks
  108. and save you the postage costs.     If you do need diskettes sent, see
  109. the registration form (Appendix A).  Complete details are in the
  110. manual.

  114. You can print out the manual by entering the following at the DOS
  115. prompt:

  119. Make sure your printer is on and that it is set to 66 lines per
  120. page.
