Q: Why should I register ? Is there any difference between the
registered version and the non-registered version ?
A: Telemate is not free. You must register after the 30-day evaluation
time period. When you register, you will receive the registered
version which have the ending screen removed. And you will receive
a registration number that will remove any annoying functions in all
future versions.
Q: Does Telemate support expanded memory ?
A: Yes, it does. Telemate supports up to 8M bytes EMS 3.2 or
EMS 4.0 memory. It stores the phone directory file and the
virtual memory file.
Q: Does Telemate support extended memory ?
A: Yes, it does. You should install the XMS (eXtended Memory Specification)
driver HIMEM.SYS in your CONFIG.SYS. After that Telemate can use
extended memory as virtual memory. Please refer to Appendix E in
TELEMATE.DOC for detailed description on XMS, EMS and how Telemate
use them.
Q: Can Telemate run under DESQview/386 ?
A: Yes, it can. In the following sample setup, the 'Memory Size'
requirement may vary from 430 to 500 depend on the back scroll
limit, the size of the files you are going to edit or view.
Memory Size (in K): 470
Writes text directly to screen.......: [N]
Displays graphics information........: [N]
Virtualize text/graphics (Y,N,T).....: [N]
Uses serial ports (Y,N,1,2)..........: [Y]
Requires floppy diskette.............: [N]
Maximum Program Memory Size (in K)..: 640
Maximum Expanded Memory Size (in K): 1024
Text Pages: 1 Graphics Pages: 0
Close on exit (Y,N,blank)........: [Y]
Allow Close Window command.......: [N]
Uses math coprocessor............: [N]
Share CPU when foreground........: [Y]
Can be swapped out (Y,N,blank)...: [N]

Share EGA when foreground/zoomed.: [Y]
Protection level (0-3)...........: [0]
Global parameters of interest are foreground and background
"ticks", which are set to 4 and 3 respectively; and Optimize
Communications, which is set to Yes.
Q: Can Telemate run under Windows/386 ?
A: Yes, it can providing you have the PIF set to
Memory Requirements: KB Required [448] KB Desired [512]

Q: What is the correct setting for USR HST ?
A: Type the following command in the terminal.
AT Z <cr>
AT B1C1E1F1M3Q0V1X6 <cr>
AT &A1&M4&K0&H1&R2&I0&B1&N <cr>
AT &W <cr>
Then
1. select 19200 or 38400 baud for maximum throughput
2. change the Modem Init string to "ATZ^M~"
3. turn on the RTS/CTS flow control
4. turn off the AutoBaudDetect option.
The following is the display for the HST settings

Q: How can I change the size of the phone directory?
A: Run TMPHONE.EXE and select the ChangeSize item in the menu. Then
you can increase the size up to 1000 entries.
Q: Can I run a external program by pressing only one key ?
A: Yes, the new Hot Key macro sequence "^=" allows you to use the
function keys as hot keys, for example "^=DIR *.ZIP^M" will
display all the ZIP file.
Q: Can I have more than 4 external protocols ?
A: If you specify a second "^=" in the Hot Key macro, say "^=MLINK-D ^=",
the second "^=" will be translated to baud rate and COM port information,
in this case the macro will be translated "MLINK-D 1200 1".
Q: My modem does not hang up right the way after I press [Alt H]. Do
I set something wrong ?
A: You should include the macro "^#", which drop the DTR, in the Modem
HangUp string. Moreover, you should set the DIP switch in the modem
such that the terminal can control the DTR. Some modems have a AT
command to control the DTR signal, it may be "AT &D2".
Q: How can I get rid of the menu bar and/or the status line?
A: When you execute TM.EXE, you can include the full screen option '/F'
in the DOS command line, for example, "TM /F". Then the terminal
will use the whole screen. You may use the [Alt -] key to toggle
the menu bar and status line.
Q: Where can I reach the author?
A: You can contact the author through one of the support BBSs, CompuServe
BIX and InterNet.
