  1. PROBLEMS (Q) AND ANSWERS (A) FOR SRE!

  3. Q.  I get an error message about running SRDOOR!
  4. A.  Run SRINSTAL to install the correct BBS type for your system.

  6. Q.  I can't figure out what to put in my batch file to run SRE.
  7. A.  Run SRINSTAL to set up a batch file automatically.

  9. Q.  I don't know how to set up my BBS software to run SRE.
  10. A.  Consult your BBS manual for more information.  Look for information
  11.     on running DOORS.  You also need to produce a DOOR FILE when running
  12.     SRE.  Select a door file format that is compatible with the options
  13.     listed in SRINSTAL.

  15. Q.  I'm running TAG.
  16. A.  Switch to Telegard.

  18. Q.  I get snow on my CGA monitor.
  19. A.  Use the /BIOS switch when running SRE to remove snow.

  21. Q.  I am using DesqView and running SRE produces trash on my screen.
  22. A.  Use the /BIOS switch to ensure compatibility with DesqView.

  24. Q.  I have a monochrome monitor.  How can I play locally without color?
  25. A.  Use the /ANSI=0 switch to turn off ANSI color.

  27. Q.  My modem buffer causes the pauses and Yes/No prompts to be
  28.     extremely slow on the remote side.
  29. A.  Use the /NOSPECIALEFFECTS switch to turn off the special effects
  30.     at the pauses and Yes/No prompts.

  32. Q.  I want to know what the users have done in SRE.
  33. A.  Use the /LOG option to write all output to the file SRE.LOG.  Note:
  34.     this file is overwritten every time SRE runs.  /NOSPECIALEFFECTS
  35.     is recommended when writing to a log file.

  37. Q.  I want a separate file to contain the scores.
  38. A.  Use SRE SCORES /LOG /ANSI=1 /LOCAL to write the scores to a file
  39.     (SRE.LOG) and then copy SRE.LOG to the file you want the scores
  40.     in.  Use /ANSI=0 instead of /ANSI=1 to create a non-ANSI file of
  41.     scores.

  43. Q.  I want to be on the SRE mailing list without paying $15!
  44. A.  Fill out the form SRUNREG.TXT and you don't have to pay $15!

  46. Q.  I want to register but I don't want my name to appear.
  47. A.  Your name will appear at the end of the game in the registered
  48.     version.  We do not register to your handle for legal reasons.
  49.     (A handle is not a legal recepient of registration benefits.)

  52. Q.  I want to register but I don't want my name to be added to
  53.     junk-mail mailing lists.
  54. A.  Don't worry!  All registerers of SRE will NOT be added to any
  55.     junk-mail list.  Our list is used ONLY for notifying registered
  56.     users of updates and/or bulletins.

  58. Q.  I'm running OPUS.
  59. A.  Switch to Telegard.

  61. Q.  My computer is an oldie 4.77 mhz 8088 with CGA...
  62. A.  Don't worry!  It'll be an antique worth millions of dollars in
  63.     70 years!  And besides... SRE was written on a 4.77 mhz CGA computer!

  65. Q.  I don't have enough money to register.
  66. A.  Just send in the SREUNREG.TXT form and you'll be officially
  67.     Unregistered!  You'll be on the list of registered users here at
  68.     the Solar Realms, but you won't receive a registration number.

  70. Q.  SRE is terrible.
  71. A.  Then why are you reading this?

  73. Q.  I need to delete a user.
  74. A.  Use SRE EDIT to delete a user, change his/her/its handle, or
  75.     change the name of the empire.

  77. Q.  I've received my registration numbers and I want to know how
  78.     to get the registration benefits.
  79. A.  Type SRE REGISTER and enter your registration numbers.

  81. Q.  I've tried SRE REGISTER and it says that I'm registered already!
  82. A.  Try SRE REREGISTER.

  85. A.  Delete STATUS.SRE.  It won't display "Registered to Joe Bloggs" anymore.

  88. A.  Type SRE BANK to set up a bank.
