Dear SysOp,
Welcome to RBBS-PC! There are sections in the documentation on
installing RBBS-PC, which you should read and understand. However,
if you are installing RBBS-PC for the first time and want to fire up
the software for a quick look without reading anything else, follow
these steps:
1) Create a directory for RBBS-PC on your hard disk. For example,
MKDIR C:\RBBS
2) Change to this directory, using:
CHDIR C:\RBBS
3) Copy ALL RBBS-PC files into this directory. Assuming you have
the RBBS-PC files on drive A, the DOS command to do this is:
COPY A:*.ZIP
4) RBBS-PC's files come compressed and libraried in ZIP format. They
must be uncompressed to become usable. The software needed to do this
can be found in the PKZ110.EXE package, available on most BBSs. To
uncompress the .ZIPs, use the command:
PKUNZIP -d *.ZIP
5) Type:
INSTALL
This will check to make sure all files are in the proper
place. It will create the file INSTALL.LOG, which will list any
misplaced or missing files.
6) Type:
RBBS
When asked for your name, enter: SECRET NAME
You will now be using RBBS-PC in local mode, so you can see the
software run without even using a modem.
7) Details on how to configure RBBS-PC to get it to answer the phone
are in the documentation.
8) Configure RBBS-PC to suit your needs. The RBBS-PC documentation will
be required to do this.
9) Fill out the enclosed registration form (TEXT\LG-9999.DEF), and either
mail it in or upload it (instructions are found in the RBBS-PC
documentation appendix).
