  26.     This group of dialing directories were created from a
  27.     bbs list, known nationally as "TheList".  This group of files
  28.     makes it possible to use "TheList" immediatly as a phone book
  29.     using the Qmodem v4.2 communcations program.

  32.     Please note that the files included within this ZIP are as follows:

  34.           README       -   This file you are reading now.
  35.  
  36.           TELEFONx.FON-   The individual dialing directories, each
  37.                           containing 200 numbers maximum. The "x" in
  38.                           the name is a alphabetical increment that
  39.                           denotes the section of "TheList" that is
  40.                           contained in it. TELEFONA.FON would be the
  41.                           first directory and TELEFOND.FON would be
  42.                           the fourth directory. Please note that ALL
  43.                           directories contain 200 numbers except the
  44.                           last one which may contain less.
  45.  
  46.     The individual directories have been set up with certain presets
  47.     in order to make the listing usable. Certain items in each entry
  48.     had to be pre-determined in order for the numbers to work at all
  49.     and they are as follows.

  51.          1) ALL numbers are treated as long distance dialing codes.
  52.             All numbers have their AREA codes AND a single digit "1"
  53.             preceding them for AT+T dialing compatibility.
  54.  
  55.          2) ALL numbers are set at 2400 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit,
  56.             and No parity. If you are using a modem that is slower than
  57.             2400 baud please see the "Special notes" area below.

  59.          3) ALL numbers have been set up as ANSI BBS terminal emulation.
  60.             If you are dialing into a system that requires a different
  61.             setup you will have to tinker with it manually.

  64.     Special notes -
  65.  
  66.         If you are using a modem slower than 2400 baud your modem may
  67.         not recognize the dialing command from Qmodem and may not respond
  68.         to the dialing codes. It may be necessary to further convert
  69.         EACH directory to allow for slower dialing speeds.

  71.         If you are dialing numbers IN YOUR AREA CODE with the long
  72.         distance dialing code AND the area code you MAY get a message
  73.         over the phone line that "Your call cannot be completed as dialed".
  74.         It might be neccesary to modify ALL of the numbers in your area
  75.         code to strip the prefix off the numbers and just leave the
  76.         actual 7-digit phone number.

  79.         Some of the other features that can be set up in a Qmodem directory
  80.         were left blank during the conversion process. You can either
  81.         reconvert them to include other items like script execution
  82.         or preset file transfer protocols.

  85.   How to use "TheList" BBS dialing directories :

  88.       WOW, this is so simple it's almost embarrasing.......
  89.  
  90.         First -  Copy ALL of the TELEFONx.FON dialing directory
  91.                  files into your Qmodem dialing subdirectory on your
  92.                  hard drive.
  93.  
  94.        Second -  Start up Qmodem in what ever manner you normally do.
  95.  
  96.        Third  -  By using the "ALT D" key combination, call up your
  97.                  standard default dialing directory.

  99.        Fourth -  Now instead of using that directory, just type a "L".
  100.                  This will call up a on screen prompt of what FON you
  101.                  want to use in its place. Just type in ANY of the
  102.                  available TELEFONx.FON files. DO NOT include the file
  103.                  extension ("FON").

  105.         Fifth -  ENJOY !.  Use these new directories in the same manner
  106.                  that you used your default directory. You can now try
  107.                  ANY of the thousands of bbs systems without having to
  108.                  key in each number yourself.
