  3.    The following excerpt from the BOYAN-40.DOC user's manual explains how to
  4. extract the BOYAN program from the archive files.  To print the entire BOYAN
  5. manual, please read the instructions in the README.2 file,  contained in the
  6. BOYAN40B.ARC archive.

  10.     2.2  Setting BOYAN Up On Disk
  11.  
  12.  
  13.     BOYAN 4.0 is shipped on either two 5.25"  diskettes  or  one  3.5" disk.
  14.     The contents of the two 5.25" diskettes, Distribution  Diskettes  #1 and
  15.     #2,  are  combined  onto  a  single  3.5"  disk.  The BOYAN program  and
  16.     reference manual  are compressed into two "archive" files,  BOYAN40A.ARC
  17.     (on Disk #1)  and  BOYAN40B.ARC (on Disk #2).  If you receive BOYAN from
  18.     a user group, ShareWare distributor, or Bulletin Board  System,  then it
  19.     will also be in the form of the BOYAN40A.ARC and BOYAN40B.ARC archives.

  21.     2.2.1  Files Included with BOYAN

  57.     If you have a hard disk, please skip to section 2.2.3.

  59.     2.2.2  Floppy Diskette Installation
  60.  
  61.     To  install  BOYAN  on 5.25" (360K) floppy diskettes, format three blank
  62.     disks and label them  "Program",  "Protocols",  and "Documentation".  To
  63.     install BOYAN on higher-capacity  floppies,  such  as 3.5" (720K) disks,
  64.     then  format  two  blanks  and   label   them   "Program/Protocols"  and
  65.     "Documentation".  Then follow these steps:
  66.  
  67.        1.  Insert BOYAN Distribution Disk #1  into drive A:, and insert your
  68.            blank "Program" disk in drive B:.
  69.  
  70.        2.  Type "B:", <Return> to make B: the currently-logged drive.
  71.  
  72.        3.  At the "B>" prompt, extract  the BOYAN programs from the BOYAN40A
  73.            archive by typing:

  75.                 A:PKXARC A:BOYAN40A
  76.  
  77.        4.  Insert  BOYAN Distribution Disk #2 into drive  A:,  and  put  the
  78.            "Protocols" disk in drive B:.

  80.        5.  Extract the external protocols from their archives by typing:

  82.                 A:PKXARC A:DSZ
  83.                 A:PKXARC A:OZBEXT
  84.                 A:PKXARC A:PCKERMIT

  87.        6.  Leave  Distribution Disk #2 in drive A:,  but  insert  the  blank
  88.            "Documentation" disk into drive B:.  Type:

  92.     Skip now to section 2.2.4.

  94.     2.2.3  Hard Disk Installation
  95.  
  96.     BOYAN provides you with a large degree of flexibility in  organizing its
  97.     files  on your hard disk.  Advanced DOS  users  will  appreciate  having
  98.     separate subdirectories configurable for each of the  following: dialing
  99.     directories,  script files, uploads, downloads, and external  protocols.
  100.     However,  the  easiest  way  to  set  up BOYAN on your hard disk  is  as
  101.     follows:
  102.  
  103.        1.  Use  the  "MD"  command  (see  DOS  manual)  to   create   a  new
  104.            subdirectory on  your  hard  disk.    For  example, to make a new
  105.            subdirectory named BOYAN, type
  106.  
  107.                 MD C:\BOYAN
  108.  
  109.            and press <Enter>.
  110.  
  111.        2.  Enter your new subdirectory by typing, for example,
  112.  
  113.                 C:
  114.                 CD \BOYAN
  115.  
  116.  
  117.        3.  To extract all files from  the BOYAN40A.ARC archive into your new
  118.            subdirectory, insert Distribution  Disk  #1  into  the  A: floppy
  119.            drive, and type:
  120.  
  121.                 A:PKXARC A:BOYAN40A
  122.  
  123.        4.  To extract the BOYAN documentation  and  external  protocols from
  124.            their archives, insert Distribution  Disk  #2  into the A: floppy
  125.            drive, and type:
  126.

  129.                 A:PKXARC A:OZBEXT

  132.     2.2.4  DOS installation
  133.  
  134.     You must also instruct DOS to  allow  at  least twelve open files with a
  135.     CONFIG.SYS file.  If your start-up disk has no CONFIG.SYS file, type the
  136.     following from DOS:
  137.  
  138.          COPY CON \CONFIG.SYS
  139.          files = 12 <ctrl-Z>
  140.  
  141.     The next time you reboot, the new DOS configuration will be in effect.
