Instructions for Battleship Door Version 3.3
=====================================================================
There are many features in this game - they include:
-A command line when you go to make a move in a game, you now
choose from (L)eave a message, (S)how Guesses, Enter Guess,
(G)ive up and Quit.
-Keeps track of the number of guesses in the Bulletin and
the date and time of the last guess, and the Hall of Fame
(if available) is at the bottom of the Bulletin.
-To make a move in a game you use option 1 then enter the
number of the game you wish to join. The old method went
down the list and made you say Yes or No on each game you
were in. This method is much faster!
-You now enter your guess in one entry, like 2h instead of
2 <return> and H <return> .
-See a Game in Progress
-Stacking of commands. To make a move in game 1 just enter
1-1 <ENTER>
NEW! -Expert Mode at Main Menu
-Graphics (Colour) toggle On/Off
Playing Battleship against other users of the Board is simple
and fun! You can make one move per turn unless you get a hit, in
which you will be granted another guess until you get a miss. To
start a Game and wait for someone to join enter use option 1 when
asked for your command. You will then be asked to place 4 ships on
a 10 by 10 grid. To enter your positions you must tell the program
where you want the first 'peg' of the ship to be placed, and then
enter a direction of where the rest the ship should go.
Diagonally placed battleships are allowed in this game. Once all
your ships are in place you will be asked to confirm everything is
to your satisfaction and the Game will be saved. Now wait for
some other user of the Board to Join The Game and then start
guessing.
To Join A Game that somebody else has started use option 4.
You will then be asked to pick which person you want to play
against and will automatically be entered as Player 2 in the game.
You too will have to set up your ships. When your ships are in
place the game will be saved and you then have to wait for Player
1 to get back into the Door and make a move first.
Each player continues to guess away until one player has all
of his Battleships hit and sunk, or until the other player decides
to (G)ive up. When the game is over your score will automatically
be added to the Battleship Hall of Fame which is at the bottom of
the Modem Battleship Scores Bulletin somewhere on the system where
your Sysop has deemed appropriate.
You can also look at other games that are being played even if
you aren't in that game. You will only be shown what guess (if any)
have been made by each player. Use Option number 3.
While you are in the Battleship Door you can see a Master List
of who is playing and who's turn it is by using Option 5. On multi
node systems it is possible to play your opponent on the other node.
Both players should enter the Door and one player should attempt to
make his move, while the other player keeps hitting option 5 - List
Games in progress. When it is your turn the list will tell you.
The player who just made his/her turn should now keep hitting option
5 - List Games in progress until the list says it's his turn again.
Be patient..wait a minute or two between listing the games.
If for any reason during the duration of the Door program you
need to 'Quit' some function, enter the letter 'Q' when you see
prompts like 'Make a move in this game? [Y]/N/Q'. In some cases
just hitting Return without any input will abort.
I've also added commands to go into Expert Mode and toggle
colour graphics on or off at the Main Menu.
That's all there is to it, just follow the screen and have fun!
