SECTION 1
THIS IS TBS BUSINESS MAILLIST(TM)
Thank you for your interest in TBS Business Maillist(tm). TBS Business
Maillist is a name & address management utility for IBM(TM) Personal
Computers, Personal System/2(TM), and other PC compatible computers.
TBS Business Maillist is a simple, yet powerful, name and address
management program. A on-line, context sensitive help system provides
help with the press of the F1 key. TBS Business Maillist was written
to provide a simple means of entering names for a variety of different
groups, and to be able to retrieve them and to print out mailing
labels and lists by group.
TBS Business Maillist gives you a simple, straightforward, menu driven
system to allow for all operations, such as entering names and ad-
dresses, and printing mailing labels and lists. The only limit that
you have on the number of names in the file is the amount of disk
space available to you.
This document describes the installation and usage of TBS Business
Maillist. It also describes many features and functions of the pro-
gram. Once you begin using TBS Business Maillist, you'll discover more
about how it works from the on-line help facility and by experimenting
with the various commands.

SECTION 2
INSTALLATION
2-1 System Requirements
TBS BUSINESS MAILLIST requires an IBM PC, XT, AT, PS/2 or compatible
computer with 512K RAM (or more) to work properly. In addition, ver-
sion 2.0 or greater of PC-DOS or MS-DOS is required.
TBS Business Maillist requires approximately 330K of computer memory
to contain the program's executable code and common data. Additional
memory is allocated as required.
TBS BUSINESS MAILLIST works well with the IBM Monochrome Display
Adapter (MDA), Color Graphics Adapter (CGA), Enhanced Graphics Adapter
(EGA), Video Graphics Array (VGA), and compatibles. Other video adapt-
ers that can emulate either the MDA or CGA should work properly.
2-2 Installing TBS BUSINESS MAILLIST
Installing TBS Business Maillist is a very simple process. Basically,
we will be creating a subdirectory on the hard disk and coping the
contents of the floppy disk to the subdirectory. The following makes
the assumption that you will be copying from drive A: to your hard
disk C:, and that the name of the subdirectory you will be using is
MAILLIST.
C:>MD MAILLIST
C:>COPY A:*.* C:\MAILLIST
PLEASE NOTE!
There may be important information on this release of TBS Business
Maillist that did not make it into this manual. Please check the
READ.ME file on your distribution diskette for the most current data.

day, and year, nor do you have to enter the leading zero for the month
(but you must enter the leading zero for the day).
Select Maillist Main Menu to see the opening menu for the maillist
program.
Select Enter Your Company Name to enter the name and address for your
company, the descriptions for the 5 user defined fields, and the
control codes for your printer.

to DOS. You can also return to dos by pressing the ESC key a number

Enter Your Company Name
The first time that you run this program, select "Enter Your Company
Name" next. This will allow you to enter your Company name and ad-
dress, the printer control codes for your printer, and the Descrip-
tions for the 5 user defined fields. The data entry screen follows:

Name and Address - Enter your Company Name and up to 3 lines of ad-
dress information. The Name field will hold up to 35 characters, and
each of the address lines will hold up to 30 characters. The company
name will print at the top of each of the reports, and the name and
address will print at the top of the shipping labels on the "Print
Ship Labels with Address" option (See section 3-6).
Next, enter the descriptions for the 5 user defined fields. These
descriptions will appear on the Add/Change/Delete Names screen, and on
the various reports and the report selection screen. These User De-
fined Fields allow you to select a group of names that have something
in common and to print mailing labels or a report listing those names.
You have up to 15 characters for the description, and I suggest that
you fill the rest of the line with "." to make the data entry screen
look consistent. For example, if one of the fields will be "Business
Type" enter "Business Type.." instead.
TBS Business Maillist Copyright 1990 Taylor Business Software
Next, enter the printer control codes to put your printer in condensed
mode and into normal mode. When entering control codes with values
less than 32, enter the value by holding the ALT key down and entering
the number on the numeric keypad. For example, most Epson and Epson
compatible printers use CHR(15), or CTRL+O, to place the printer into
condensed mode, (and CHR(18), or CTRL+R, to quit condensed mode). To
enter this value, hold down the ALT key, enter 15 on the numeric
keypad (not the numbers above the letter keys), then release the ALT
key. To set a HP LaserJet to print 16.7CPI, one command is ESC&k2S, or
"27 38 107 50 83", to return to 10CPI is ESC&k0S or "27 38 107 48 83".
Here, you would hold down the ALT key, enter each set of numbers, and
release the ALT key. Or enter ALT+27 &k2S.
Numeric Values for different control codes are:
Decimal Control Key Decimal Control Key
0 CTRL @ 17 CTRL Q
1 CTRL A 18 CTRL R
2 CTRL B 19 CTRL S
3 CTRL C 20 CTRL T
4 CTRL D 21 CTRL U

ASCII table as a appendix in the manual.

Notes about entering information on the above screen: The "User Field
1" thru "User Field 5" will be replaced with what you have entered in
the "Enter Company Name" screen as the User Field Descriptions.
Zip Code Entry - When entering a Zip Code, the system will look up the
zip code to get the name of the city and state. If the zip code does
not exist in the zip code file yet, press F2 (to display Zip Codes),
then press INS (to add a new record), enter the Zip Code, City, and
State, then press Enter (or Return).
3-5 Print Mailing Labels
Mailing labels are printed in Zip Code sequence, and use one wide
labels (3" by 15/16" or 3.5" x 15/16). You will be asked to enter
From/Thru values for each of the 5 User Defined Fields to determine
the records to print out. It is possible to enter values in such a
manner that no records are selected. If you press Enter (or Return)
for each of the From/Thru values, all records will be selected. Note
that when you press Enter (or Return) on the From field, that the Thru
field is changed to "}}}}}".
3-6 Print Shipping Labels
Shipping Labels are printed for a selected customer, and print on one
wide labels (4" by 3" or 3 7/8" by 3"). The Print Ship Labels with
Address prints the name and address entered on the Enter Company Name
screen. The Print Ship Labels No Address print shipping labels with-
out a return address (for use on pre-printed labels.
TBS Business Maillist Copyright 1990 Taylor Business Software
3-7 Reports
Note: The following reports require a wide carriage printer, or a
narrow carriage printer with the printer set to condensed print or the
condensed print set up string entered on the Enter Company Name
screen.
The Short Reports (by Name or Zip Code) basically print one line that
shows the name, address lines 1 and 2, city, state, and zip code. The
Long Reports (by Name or Zip Code) add the contact name, and the phone
numbers and user defined fields in a three line format report.
3-8 Add/Change Zip Codes
This routine will allow you to enter the Zip Code, City, and State for
the various Zip Codes that you will be using. Zip Codes have to be
entered here before they can be used on the Add/Change Names screen.
3-9 Print List of Zip Code
This option prints a list of the Zip Codes that have been entered in
the system.
3-10 Export Names to Ascii File
This routine will create a file called NAMES.TXT in the current direc-
tory and write out, in a comma delimited format, all of the names in
the database. All of the information on the Add/Change Names screen
is written to the file, in the following order:
Name
Address Line 1
Address Line 2
City
State
Zip Code (5 digit portion)
Zip + 4 Extension
Contact
Work Phone
Home Phone
User Field 1
