Thank you for taking the time to download this program. We hope that
you will find this program to be of some use to you.
1149 BBS has been kind enough to create a conference (#25, PCS-BAM) so
that you may easily get in touch. If you find any bugs or have any
questions pertaining to PC Security please leave messages on 1149 BBS
in this Conference (#25, PCS-BAM) and address messages to CRAIG NELSON
or DALE FELTY.

We encourage you to contact us with your opinions and suggestions
(and let us know of any bugs that you find). Our goal with this
program is to provide a good menu program that is EASY to set up
and use. We are also in the process of making a network version,
so any suggestions here are welcome also.

PC Security Version 2.0ß is being released under the Shareware Concept.
This is a BETA version of PC Security and cannot be registered. The
registered version will be available by March, 1990.
***** ************************** *****
BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
PC Security is a menu / security program. It will enable you to
control and log who uses your PC and what programs each user can
use. Each user is assigned a security level between 1 and 100.
Each menu option (item) is also assigned a security level. A user
will be able to access any program in the menus with a security
level that is less than or equal to his/her security level. Any
menu items with a security level higher than the user's will not
not even show up in the menus.
For example:
Joe has a LEVEL of 100
Sam has a LEVEL of 75
Bob has a LEVEL of 55
Bill has a LEVEL of 25
When Joe is signed on to PC Security, he will be able to see and use
every menu item that is configured on PC Security (since 100 is the
highest level). Sam will only be able to see and use items that have
been assigned a level of 75 or lower. Bob can only select items with
a level of 55 or lower, etc.
Of course, not everyone wants or needs this security function. You
can choose to not use the security / signon function. If the security
function is not used, anyone can use the PC and can select any menu
items that are configured.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
At this point, PC Security requires a minimum of 512K and a CGA, EGA,
or VGA adapter. We intend for the 2.0 RELEASE version to run on 256K
and it will support a monochrome adapter.
PC SECURITY FILES:
The files contained in PCSEC2-1.ZIP and PCSEC2-2.ZIP are as follows:

INSTALLATION:
We have tried to make this program as easy to install as possible. If
you have any suggestions that would make installation easier, please
let us know via 1149, conference #25 (PCSBAM)!
*NOTE: The Escape (ESC) is used in this program to back up a step
or exit the current function.
1. Create a directory for PC Security.
2. Unarc ALL files in this Archive into this Subdirectory on your
Hard Disk. Set the Default directory set to the Location where
the PC Security files reside.
*NOTE: If you are planning on running any .BAS files from within
PC Security you will need to have your Basic Interpreter
located somewhere in your DOS Path.
If you want PC Security to come up at BOOT time you will have to add
a CD\[sub where PC Security is located] and CONTROL as the last two
entries in your Autoexec.bat file.
3. Type "PCSMENU CONTROL.BAT". This will generate the .BAT file that
you will use to start PC Security.
4. Type "CONTROL". This starts PC Security. You will see the PC
Security signon screen. Type "SECURITY" in the name field and
"PASS" in the password field.
5. You will get an error message saying that there is no Menu File and
that the Security Officer must build the Menu File before PC Security
can be run. This error message only appears when there is no Menu
File. Type "SECURITY" to go to the FILE MAINTENANCE screen or type
"BACKDOOR" to exit to DOS.
6. At the FILE MAINTENANCE screen you can choose (option A)- to change
PC Security CONFIGURATION options , (option B)- go to MENU UTILITIES
or (option C)- go to SECURITY functions.
7. I suggest that you start with SECURITY options and set up at least
one user. This would probably be you and you should give at least
one user a level of 100 (again, probably you).
8. Next, go to MENU UTILITIES and create your Menu Data file. (Use ALT+H
for help screens.
9. If you want to change the screen colors or other PC Security options,
select option C when you return to the FILE MAINTENANCE screen.
10. Any time you want to use PC Security, just change directories to the
one containing the PC Security programs and type "CONTROL". Or, if you
want PC Security to run whenever your computer is turned on, put the
following commands as the last two entries in your AUTOEXEC.BAT:
CD\[sub where PC Security is located]
CONTROL -- ( this calls the PC Security programs.)
We at Build - A - Matic thank you for using "PC Security".
