  1.            PC-TAX90 Distribution Diskette READ-ME.1ST File

  3. This READ-ME file contains information that may have been added after the
  4. documentation was completed.  To print the READ-ME.1ST file to a printer,
  5. type: COPY READ-ME.1ST PRN and press the Enter key.
  6.  
  7.                    COPYING THE DISTRIBUTION DISK
  8. If you downloaded a copy of PC-TAX90 from Compuserve, Genie or some other
  9. bulletin board system, use PKUNZIP to unZIP the PC-TAX90.ZIP file to a
  10. diskette to creat the equivalent of the diskette used by PC-*.* Shareware
  11. for distribution of the registered versions of PC-TAX90.  Please make a
  12. WORK copy of the distribution diskette and use this WORK copy to install
  13. the PC-TAX90 program.  If your computer uses high density (1.2) floppy
  14. diskettes, it is recommended that you use the COPY command of DOS to make
  15. the work copy of the PC-TAX90 program on a high density diskette. The
  16. DISKCOPY command of DOS may be used for those with the 360Kb diskettes.

  18.                       INSTALLING PC-TAX90
  19.  
  20. The distribution diskette has an INSTALL batch file which will install the
  21. PC-TAX90 program to either floppy a drive or to any hard or RAM disk. The
  22. instruction screen of the batch file may be displayed by typing the word
  23. INSTALL. A sample of the instruction screen is below:

  26.   Install Procedure...          Syntax:  INSTALL  fromdrive  todrive

  28.   In general, the install must be done from one drive to another.
  29.   The distribution disk must be placed in the "fromdrive". The install
  30.   batch file program will then un-ARC various files to the "todrive".

  32.   For a 360k DUAL-FLOPPY system, you will need to prepare TWO blank
  33.   formatted diskettes, without DOS on them. Label one of the disks,
  34.   PC-TAX90 and the other disk PCTAXDOC.   When ready, place the
  35.   distribution diskette in drive A: and type...   INSTALL  A:  B:

  37.   FOR A HARD-DISK system, you will need at least 400K available for
  38.   the subdirectory \PCTAX that will be created. Alternatively, a
  39.   large RAM drive, or a 1.2M, 720K or 1.44M floppy drive may be used
  40.   as the "todrive". Prepare enough space on your chosen "todrive" .
  41.   When ready, place the distribution disk in your chosen "fromdrive"
  42.   and type... INSTALL  A:  C:  (install A: to internal hard drive C:)
  43.    or type... INSTALL  B:  A:  (install B: to high density floppy A:)
  44.    or type... INSTALL  A:  D:  (install A: to 2nd hard or RAM drive D:)

  47. 1.  Place your WORK diskette in drive A.

  49. 2.  To install PC-TAX90

  51.     a.  On a FLOPPY diskette in drive B type:  INSTALL A: B:

  55.         and press the Enter key.

  57. The one space between the word INSTALL and the first drive letter, and the
  58. one space between the two drive letters, are required by the batch file.

  62.                 PRINTING THE PC-TAX90 DOCUMENTATION
  63.  
  64. PLEASE print and read the PC-TAX90.DOC file before attempting to run the
  65. PC-TAX90 program.  The documentation file is a major revision of the
  66. documentation for PC-TAX88.  If you were a user of PC-TAX88, you too should
  67. print and read the documentation file for PC-TAX90 since there are
  68. significant differences between PC-TAX88 and PC-TAX90.

  70. To print the PC-TAX90.DOC file when using FLOPPY DRIVES A & B, ready your
  71. printer with at least 40 pages of 8 1/2 by 11 paper.  Put the PC-TAX90
  72. diskette in the A drive, the PCTAXDOC diskette in drive B, and from the DOS
  73. ready prompt, key the following line to print the documentation file.

  77. When you first run the PC-TAX90 program it is recommended that you use the
  78. Auto Print option to print a master list of those forms and schedules you
  79. plan to use. This is described on page 8 of the manual under the section
  80. titled, "Printing Master List Forms/Schedules."

  82.                WARNING - Running PC-TAX90 - WARNING
  83.  
  84. If the screen goes blank when PC-TAX90 is run, see the instruction for DOS
  85. Command Line Parameters on page 5 of the documentation file.  You MUST use
  86. the command PC-TAX90 SCREEN=MONO to run the program on system that use a
  87. display adapter that displays "colors" as "shades of gray(green)".  This
  88. situation applies to most systems using Hercules display boards.

  96. The following problems (bugs) in PC-TAX90 Version 90.10 dated 31 December
  97. 1990 have been reported.  These problems were corrected in the revisions
  98. of the PC-TAX90.EXE file as outlined below.  Only the PC-TAX.EXE and
  99. READ-ME.1ST files have been updated.  Replace the old PC-TAX90.EXE file
  100. on your work disk(ette) (using the DOS COPY command) with the revised
  101. PC-TAX90.EXE file then run the program to print new Forms or Schedules
  102. as called for by the revision.
