  7. -  ABOUT THE INNKEEPER
  8.  
  9. The Innkeeper is a point of sale system designed for bars and
  10. restaurants.  A typical Innkeeper installation will consist of
  11. several pos stations, waitress stations, kitchen and bar printers,
  12. and an office station.  The number of Innkeeper stations is only
  13. limited by the chosen LAN implementation.  At BDM we have had good
  14. success using Grapevine (Computer Pathways) as the Innkeeper LAN
  15. platform.

  17. The Innkeeper provides many benefits to an establishment:

  21.     -  Food and Drink routing

  23.     -  Improved customer service

  25. Statistics from or current customers show that automating an
  26. establishment will increase profit by as much as 22% annually.

  28. -  WHATS ON THIS BBS FILE

  30. The complete POS front-end is provided through the SHAREWARE
  31. concept.

  33. -  HOW TO START
  34.  
  35. Create a directory on your system called 'WORK' and copy the
  36. Innkeeper files to this directory.  To start the program simply type
  37. 'BAR'.  You will be prompted for an operator number and then a
  38. password.  Enter '1' for the operator number and 'password' for the
  39. password  (do not enter the quotes).  The password routine is case
  40. sensitive so make sure you enter it in lower case.  Once you are in
  41. the point of sale program press SHIFT+F1 for help.

  43. The first thing that you must do is to build checks.  Press F9 and select
  44. Clear Checks'.  This only has to be done once, the very first time you
  45. try the system.

  47. -  A BRIEF OPERATIONS OVERVIEW
  48.  
  49. The system is designed around 5 main sale 'windows' that contain
  50. product information.  The contents of the windows are completely
  51. customizable via the Innkeeper back-end.  All pricing, inventory,
  52. product descriptions, and reporting are controlled through the
  53. back-end.

  55. Each product window contains up to 26 entries.  The entries can be
  56. products, or a sub-title to make the window more readable.  To
  57. navigate through the windows use the space bar F1, F2, F3, or F4. To
  58. make a sale simply press the letter that corresponds to the item(s)
  59. to be sold and then press enter.  If you happen to have a cash
  60. drawer connected to a com port, you can make it pop open.  (My kids
  61. do it all day)  You build 'TABS' by pressing the HOME key and
  62. selecting a table number.  ADDING TO TAB ## will appear in the upper
  63. left hands corner of the screen.  Once you are finished selecting
  64. items press enter.  On a live Innkeeper system this would route all
  65. food orders to the kitchen, and drinks to the bar.  Press F6 to
  66. view and manipulate the customer checks.

  68. Take a look at the help screen (SHIFT+F1) to figure out the system.
  69. It's really pretty simple.
