README.NOW -- Notes on AMORT V 4.0 -- Release date 30 October 1988
Thanks for using AMORT V4.0 -- a fast, full featured loan
amortization program. This file contains last-minute notes that may
not be reflected in the documentation.
FILES
The AMORT package (whether obtained as separate files, or in
AMORT40.ARC) should contain the following files:
AMORT.EXE -- the program;
AMORT.DOC -- documentation;
AMORT.TXT -- a demonstration header/footer file; and
README.NOW -- this file.
If you distribute AMORT, please be sure all four files are included.
DOCUMENTATION
The new documentation file is more extensive than before; I hope
it's helpful to you. The file all set to copy to your printer,
with page breaks inserted and a tab character on the left margin to
give a large enough left margin to allow three-hole punching the
printout if you like. To copy the documentation to the printer,
type "copy AMORT.DOC prn" and stand back. The documentation is nine
printed pages long.
NEW FEATURES
If you are familiar with AMORT V3.x, you will notice that the basic
structure of the program is the same, although it has been almost
completely rewritten. There are a bunch of new features, though,
that I hope justify the time it took to prepare this new release.
They include:
* Calculation of payment dates (instead of payment numbers as before)
* Ability to print customized headers and footers on loan schedules
* Better printer support
* Users can choose AMORT's method of rounding numbers
* Numerous other enhancements requested by V3.x users
BUGS
I think that all the known bugs in AMORT have been squashed, but the
logic used for calculating all the dates used in the program is very
complex, and given AMORT's flexibility the possible combinations of
strange date conditions is huge. Thus, it wouldn't surprise me if
there were certain combinations of loan terms, payments-per-year,
and dates which cause problems.
If you find such a condition and are the first to report it to me, I
will send you a disk with the version of the program fixing the bug,
whether or not you have registered. Please provide as much
documentation as possible about any bug you report.
I anticipate releasing an updated version of AMORT around January 1,
1989. That version will add a few new features and address all
reported bugs. Registered users will receive a copy of the next
release directly from me; the rest of you are on your own!
A REMINDER
AMORT is NOT in the public domain; users of the program for
commercial purposes must register with me and pay a license fee.
Please read the documentation file for the full license terms.
