OCR: Just Write 2.0 for Windows by Tony Curro Symantec has released its second version of Just Write for Windows. Just Write is a word processor that has many features. One nice feature is the ability to work directly with database files from: Q&A 3.0/4.0, Paradox 3.0/3.5, and dBASE III/IV files. None of these have to be changed or delimited in any way. All other database and spreadsheet file must be TAB delimited to work with Just Write. Just Write requires 5, 238K for a full installation. The README file stated that some video cards will have a problem with the page preview option. Mine did, and from making the changes described I was able to correct it. Several things did irk me about Just Write. For starters, every template I opened gave me a message stating it was formatted for PCL/HPLJ. It then converted it to my default printer, but I did always have to read that message. Creating a graphic file was another big procedure. You start out in full page text mode. When you click on the picture icon, the screen changes and you go into graphics mode. You see the upper left quadrant of the page. From here you select your graphic, that you can then resize or otherwise manipulate. After you are all done, you select CLOSE GRAPHIC, which causes the screen to change back to full page mode with your graphic in place. This is not necessary as it requires too many steps and screen changes. I am used to clicking, drawing a box, and importing a graphic. Envelopes are also a chore; so much that I did not even attempt to print one. I read the instructions and gave up. You must get a sheet of paper and place an envelope in the upper right corner. You must measure it from the edge of the envelope to the left and below it. Then you write these down, and go into Windows and create an envelope printer; you select landscape mode and input these margins. Then if you did everything right you should have a nice envelope. Word for Windows requires a click on an icon, as I am told Ami Pro 3.0 also requires. WordStar for Windows, which I use, required me to ONLY set up a printer for landscape; after which I had perfect envelopes . Just Write has a list price of $249. It may have possibilities, but it also requires some work to compete with the "big boys." I do find good in almost any program that I review. In this case, I cannot in good conscience recommend this product. = Product Information Just Write 2.0 for Windows List Price - $249 Symantec Corporation 10201 Torre Avenue Cupertino, CA 95014-2132 || 408-253-9600 =
