  7. "Hell" is set one hundred years into the future in Washington D.C., the
  8. place where earth meets hell.  The Hand of God rules the United States
  9. headed by the Emperor Solene Solux, who has established a repressive
  10. government.  Solux's party outlawed various things such as the exploration of
  11. cyberspace, robotics, new computer technologies and also books, alcohol
  12. and drugs, in other words, personal freedom.
  13.  
  14. Following this, a rebellious feeling emerged from the population and resulted
  15. in the creation of the Citizens Freedom Front led by former U.S. Senator
  16. Erin Burr.  However, people are frightened of being condemned to hell and
  17. by the legions of demons that now plague the city streets.
  18.  
  19. In "Hell", you can play the game as either Rachel Braque or Gideon Eshanti.
  20. Both are agents of the Artificial Reality Containment (ARC), a subdivision
  21. of Hand's police.  Your goal will be to discover why the Hand of God,
  22. especially Solene Solux, wants them killed.
  23.  
  24. "Hell" is a new game using high quality SVGA graphics with rendered
  25. backgrounds and amazing textures that are simply stunning.  All the
  26. characters in the game, including yours, have been modeled in three
  27. dimensions with textures, except for top model Stephanie Seymour who benefits
  28. from video animations, the only way to represent her as an holographic vision
  29. in the game.

  31. An amazing cast of actors were hired for this project featuring Dennis
  32. Hopper, Stephanie Seymour, Grace Jones and Geoffrey Holder.  Hollywood's star 
  33. Dennis Hopper plays the role of Mr. Beautiful, a demon summoned up directly
  34. from hell.

  36. With a total of 104 voices, you can easily imagine how important the
  37. dialogues are in the game.  When you talk to someone, not only do you get to
  38. hear the speech, but also a 3D animation of the character in a small window.
  39. The game can be run with speech only, speech and text, or text only.
  40.  
  41. Sometimes, you will have a choice of subjects when speaking with somebody,
  42. but most of the time it is automatic leaving you with no other choice than to
  43. listen carefully.  This does not give much freedom to the player and it is
  44. one of the greatest criticisms I have about this game.  Things are a bit
  45. too linear for me.

  47. For example, if you wish to travel, you will have to use the metro map and
  48. click on the metro station you want to stop at.  However, you will be able to
  49. access it only if it is flashing when pointing at it with the mouse.  This
  50. means that new locations will become available to you as you progress in the
  51. game.

  53. Many times you will have puzzles to solve which will sometimes be quite
  54. evident, but most others will require some thought to get through them.
  55. One interesting option that the game features is the replay option.  When
  56. you select it, you can search by locations, and then by characters to replay
  57. all the dialogues between you and the character.  It comes in quite handy if
  58. you have forgotten the essential elements of the plot.

  64. "Hell" is well done with an intricating plot, dazzling graphics, brilliant 
  65. animations, and with very convincing voices.
