This is one of the original versions of the links golf game series
from US GOLD/ACCESS software.
This is a very good golf game, especially if you have a low spec PC,
because it does not use SVGA like some of the newer golf games around,
which means it can be run on a 386 with no problem, at a reasonable
speed or a 486DX2 66 at a very fast speed, by this I mean the
difference of about 3 seconds to redraw a course after a shot has been
taken on a 386 computer, which is quite good considering it only takes
2 seconds on a 486. This speed is for when the detail is set to high
for close up, medium for short distance and low for long distance,
however this can be altered to help speed the game up.
This game works well with 4MB, but is better with 8MB (only if you
choose to use extended and/or expanded memory in the setup section of
the game).
You only get one course with the game, but new ones can be added,
via the many course data disks available.
Once you have choosen a course during a game you will be shown a top
view of the course, which is followed by a short description of the
course, then the course will be drawn, you are then ready to play.
Once this has happend, you will find playing the game is easy & fun,
especially if you are playing with more than 1 player. There are alot
of nice touches, like the sound of birds and the coments the player
makes, along with the course map which can be called up at any time
while playing the game.
Besides playing a game of golf with 1 to 8 players, you can practice
putting and driving, which helps alot some people get the hang of the
game.
Overall I give this game 75%, as it dos not require a high spec PC,
which means any one can enjoy it, including your mum or dad, who said
old games are rubbish ?.
