  4. Marty Make-Wright is back, and he's here to stay (pending law suits 
  5. allowing of course). So step inside his PC Clinic for another lethal 
  6. injection of unconventional problem solving. And watch out, for there 
  7. is a new feature lurking within - the Celebrity Question Corner.

  12. ~I like to think of myself as a bit of an entreprenuer, and I think I
  13. ~have spotted a gap in the PC games market. Just the other day I was
  14. ~playing Sim Ant when the idea occured to me the major area Maxis has
  15. ~missed in their Sim series. They have covered the creation of cities,
  16. ~planets, and life itself but they haven't even touched an area we 
  17. ~spend a third of our lives doing - sleeping. What do ya think? Should
  18. ~I sell my SimSleep idea to Maxis?

  22.                  Nice try, but Maxis have actually covered this area,
  23. and they've even thrown it in as a free gift. Just play Sim Life for
  24. 30 minutes and you'll be nodding off in no time.

  26. Still it did get me thinking about other Sim ideas. How about Sim
  27. Problem Page where a self proclaimed doctor replies to completely 
  28. made up questions? Na - you'd never get away with that!

  33. ~I'm a newcomer to the world of computers, and am experiencing some of
  34. ~those familiar novice difficulties. My computer came bundled with a
  35. ~CD-ROM game called Megarace, but I can't get it to run. It seemed to 
  36. ~install OK but when I go into the Megarace directory and type MR the
  37. ~system reports some sort of weird error message. I've heard most of
  38. ~these type of errors are caused by memory problems, but I don't know
  39. ~if my base, extended, or expanded memory is the one at fault. 
  40. ~Please help.

  44.                Thanks for the print out detailing your memory setup.
  45. If only more people would do this problems would be much easier to
  46. diagnose. You're quite right, it is a memory problem. But it`s not
  47. with the computer`s, its with yours. You see, placing the CD labeled
  48. "Megarace" into your CD-ROM drive should alleviate your difficulties.
  49. Readers, sometimes I wish I could upgrade people's BRAINS to 8Mb!

  51. But now I would like to present my new monthly feature - the Celebrity
  52. Question Corner. And this month we're going to start in style by 
  53. answering a question from our very own Prime Minister John Major:

  58. ~As you can probably imagine I'm a bit depressed at the moment. What
  59. ~with all those opinion polls saying I'm the most hated Prime Minister
  60. ~in recent history, I decided I needed something to cheer me up. I've
  61. ~chosen to buy one of those new fangled computer type things but I 
  62. ~haven't got a clue which one would be most appropriate for me.

  67.                  Firstly, thanks very much for your letter John. I 
  68. didn't realise Cheet Sheets had such a wide circulation. I've given
  69. your problem a lot of thought and think I have come up with the 
  70. perfect solution. Get hold of the latest issue of PC Mart and have a
  71. flick through for some bargains. Pay special attention to any 286 PC's
  72. because I think you'll like these - they should certainly fit your
  73. 'Back to Basics' policy. And watch out for any computers with 
  74. monocrome monitors. If you buy one of these you will be able to play 
  75. all your games in glorious 256 different shades of grey.

  77. And finally John, cheer up will you. The way I see it is everybody
  78. hates politians, right? And you're the most hated of all politians,
  79. right? Well, it stands to reason then that you'll have the job for
  80. life because nobody could top your unpopularity. Right!

  85. ~I'm looking to upgrade my PC so I can play the latest games. But I
  86. ~can't decide which bus to get: VLB or PCI. I've heard the PCI one is
  87. ~faster but its 30 pounds more expensive. Which should I go for?

  90. DR MARTY REPLIES:
  91.                  Frankly Jan I'm amazed a woman like yourself would
  92. need to ask me such a trivial question. You didn't say which town you
  93. were going to buy the upgrade from so its hard for me to comment, but
  94. at a push I'd say go for VLB. After all, an extra 30 quid does seem
  95. a little steep for a saving of a few minutes. But before you do 
  96. anything I think you should write a letter of complaint. It only costs
  97. me 85p for a trip into town to visit the local computer store on the
  98. X19 from Southampton. But hopefully for the amount you pay the buses
  99. are on time, and they empty the ash trays occasionally!

  104. ~Thanks for replying to my letter last issue. I thought I'd let you 
  105. ~know how I was getting on. I took your advice and preposed to my
  106. ~daughter`s boyfriend but he declined. He (Phil) told me that he
  107. ~had got my daughter pregnant, and would be marrying her next month.

  112.                Look Ima I told you last month this is a problem page
  113. about PC games. I really don't care what happens to you and your
  114. teenage daughter. But I am nothing if not compassionate (honest!) so 
  115. I'll give you an answer. I can see a potential problem here. If you 
  116. went ahead and married Phil, and he had custody of the baby then you
  117. would be both the baby`s step-mother AND grandmother. Suicide is  
  118. quickly looking the best option here Ima!

  122. Marty will be back next month with more problems, another Celebrity
  123. Question Corner, and maybe even a couple of answers too.

  126. DISCLAIMER - It should be known that neither Cheet Sheets nor Dr Marty
  127. Make-Wright suggest all mothers of pregnant teenage daughters should 
  128. commit suicide. But of course if your name happens to be Ima Single we
  129. strongly suggest you give it serious consideration.
