  6. ~SELECTING AN ARTICLE
  7.  
  8. Articles in Cheet Sheets are categorised under four headings,
  9. each shown as a tab on the main menu dialogue box. To select a
  10. category, click on a tab - the articles in the list will change
  11. accordingly. To select an article, click on it (this will
  12. highlight the article) and press the View button. More articles
  13. may be found by scrolling the list using the arrows at the right
  14. of the list box.

  16. ~VIEWING AN ARTICLE

  18. The viewing window (which you're looking at now) can be scrolled
  19. up and down using the mouse cursor on the scroll bar to the
  20. right. Alternatively, you can use the cursor keys and
  21. Page-Up/Page-Down keys to move around. Note that if you haven't
  22. got a mouse, the cursor keys are used to move the mouse pointer,
  23. so you should use CTRL-PAGEUP and CTRL-PAGEDOWN to scroll the
  24. document.

  26. NOTE: Some computers can't handle the single line scrolling
  27. used in Cheet Sheets, due to a Video BIOS limitation. These are
  28. detected automatically, and page up/page down scrolling used
  29. instead.

  31. GO BACK: Returns you to the main menu.

  33. PRINT: Clicking on the print button will send the text of the
  34. article to the printer on LPT1.
  35.  
  36. PLAY: Activates "Noise Suppression" feature!  If you're listening
  37. to the music through the PC Speaker, you'll hear a lot of hiss 
  38. while the magazine processes mouse and button handling - clicking
  39. on this button disables everything but the page-up and page-down
  40. keys to give vastly better sound quality!  Just press any other
  41. key to return to normal.

  43. VIEW SCREEN SHOTS: Some documents have accompanying screen shots
  44. (reviews for instance). Clicking on View Screen Shots allows you
  45. to see these - click once to progress to the next picture, the
  46. magazine will return when you've finished.

  48. ~THE MUSIC INTERFACE

  50. If you've got a SoundBlaster or compatible, you'll hear great
  51. music all the while you're running Cheet Sheets. If you've not
  52. got one, you'll hear the same music sent through your PC Speaker
  53. - which sometimes sounds good, but on many PCs is a bit crap.
  54. The main CHEET.EXE program accepts the following music command
  55. lines, should you want to force Cheet Sheets to use a different
  56. setting:

  58. Force SoundBlaster mode if not detected: CHEET /SB
  59. Force Internal Speaker: CHEET /SP
  60. No music: CHEET /SILENT
  61.  
  62. When using the main menu, you can access the features of the
  63. sound system at the base of the screen. Buttons are provided for
  64. searching forwards and backwards in a song, playing and stopping
  65. the music and for advancing to the next track (which is done
  66. automatically at the end of any song).

  68. The three buttons to the right, confuse many people. These
  69. control the quality of the music coming through your
  70. SoundBlaster or Speaker - initially, this is set to the lowest
  71. quality (the left hand side setting) which is Ok for all PCs.
  72. However, if you have a fast 386 or 486 and a SoundBlaster, try
  73. the middle setting for much better sound quality. Similarly,
  74. with a high power machine (like a 486DX-50+) setting the highest
  75. setting may increase quality further still. If you don't have a
  76. sound blaster, selecting the highest setting will give much
  77. better quality music - even on a relatively slow PC.
