OCR: ..... ct LETTER FROM THE EDITOR by Rusty ->> >> alt. 176 issue 1 < wtf ?! .. 2 Welcome to Alt-176 Volume 1, Issue 1. First I'd like to thank you for downloading 176. Second, I hope you thoroughly enjoy its contents and possibly even learn something about the scene, yourself, or both by the time you're finished reading this. What is 176? Well, let me begin this introduction by letting you all know where I stand on things. To say that I am upset by the current state of the scene wouldn't be accurate. I'm really saddened that my hobby for the past two years has boiled down to Internet chat about being gay, drugs, and molesting children and/or animals. I'm not exactly sure why or how the scene came about, but I'm sure that whoever started this once great underground brotherhood, focused on art, would be kinda pissed if they saw what it became. Once a long time ago, the scene was about competition. Sure, I can't really say it was friendly compet- ition, but it was healthy, nonetheless. People really gave 2 cents about what their art work looked like and there were many different styles. Some of this is still true, but a lot of it isn't. The scene is suffering from a copius amount of apathy right now, and I feel that I've stood idly by long enough . Enter 176. I was at work today, bored as usual, thinking about just about anything that crossed my mind. Fellow scener Julian Stardawn works in the same establishment and we often find ourselves wasting time talking about ... the art scene. Well, tonight the conversation took its usual turn of events and bam - we find ourselves complaining about how pathetic #ansi is, and how stupid the whole scene is becoming. It occoured to me that if I never said anything, however, my viewpoint would be invalid. As they say, you can't complain if you're not involved. Upon the realization that I had the necessary means, I took it upon myself to accomplish the task of starting my own infopage/emag in which to spew my scene reform dogma. The mag then became an official emag (meaning it's coded) when I started talking to Cool T <Acid> about getting an IRC capture he had made of a conversation we were having the other night. One thing led to another and we decided to collaborate. Well anyhow, here it is, I hope my views aren't too jaded or con- voluted. If I seem a little too high on my horse or a little off, lemme know, after all, what kinda person would I be, speaking about change in the scene if I was completely oblivious to any aspect of my own personality which might benefit from change. Hopefully this e-mag is just the beginning on a road of positive change for the ANSI scene. Rusty ( Ex Acme Founder, Ex Spastic Staff, Ex Wicked, Ex Mop, Ex Blade, Ex Humid, Ex Cancer, Ex Twilight ) 3
