  25.    megabytes of article headers.  Some of these data-
  26.    base  maintenance programs are inordinately costly
  27.    to run.  We present the design and rationale of  a
  28.    newsreader  database  that is sharable by multiple
  29.    newsreaders and relatively cheap to maintain.
