WHAT CAN BE FOUND ON GEnie FOR A NeXTSTEP USER?

GEnie has a GREAT NeXTSTEP support section, including a bulletin board and
a large software library filled with NeXTSTEP public domain and shareware
applications. We also have a real-time conference section in which the
members can interact with each other in real-time (live) to ask questions
or simply to shoot the breeze and talk about their favorite computer.
GEnie also offers Internet mail capabilities.
HOW TO SIGN UP FOR GEnie

If you're not a GEnie subscriber already, follow these simple instructions to
sign up. These instructions apply to U.S. and Canada only.
1. Set your communications software for half duplex (local echo), at 300,
1200 or 2400 baud.
2. Dial toll free: 1-800-638-8369 (in Canada, call 1-800-387-8330).
Immediately upon connection, type HHH.
3. When you see the U#= prompt, Type: XTX99259,GENIE then press <RETURN>.
4. Have a major credit card ready. In the U.S., you may also use your
checking account number.
GEnie Client Services

The wide range of informative and entertaining services offered through GEnie
are supported by a staff of Client Representatives trained to help you get the
most from the service. Our Client Services staff can help you understand the
tools available to you, identify money-saving shortcuts and remedy problem
situations.
GEnie's Client Service staff is available to you 365 days a year either online
(type FEEDBACK at any menu prompt) or via a toll-free telephone call anywhere
in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Questions online can be directed
to FEEDBACK 24 hours-a-day. We will respond to you through GE Mail as quickly
as possible ... usually within two business days.
Our toll-free customer assistance lines are staffed Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to
Midnight; Saturday, Sunday and National Holidays 12:00 to 8:00 PM (all times
noted are Eastern). Most questions can be answered quickly via GE Mail.

HOW WE CAN HELP
===============
Whether you need help sending a GE Mail or accessing your local access number,
GEnie Client Services can probably help you. Here are some ideas on how to get
the most" out of your contact with Client Services.
One of the most important commands on GEnie (from the Client Services
perspective) is the PORT command. When you type PORT at any menu prompt GEnie
will print out two numbers which give Client Services information on the exact
path you are taking through the network. This is especially important in
helping us resolve line noise, upload/download and response problems. We
suggest that you type PORt at the beginning of each session ... so you have the
information "just in case".
What do I do if ...
-------------------
I want to change my billing information?
You don't need to contact GEnie for this at all. Just type BILL at any menu
prompt and choose the option labeled "Change Address and Billing Information".
This is also the way to change your address, telephone number, credit card
expiration date and other user information.
I can't connect to my local access number?
First you should try dialing the number with your handset - to confirm why you
aren't connecting (busy signal, ring-no-answer, etc.). If you *DO* hear a
modem at the other end, recheck your settings and try again. If you don't get
a modem, call Client Services with your userid, the name of the city and number
you are dialing unsuccessfully.
I don't get a U#=?
Call GEnie Client Services with your Userid, the name of the city and number
you are dialing, your access speed (baud rate) and the type of computer and
communications software you are using. (Remember, that you must enter HHH after making the connection).
I get VALIDATION FAULT?
VALIDATION FAULT usually indicates you are using the incorrect password to
access your userid. Make sure you are typing your userid followed by a comma
and then your password ... with NO spaces. If the problem persists call Client
Services. If you are using the incorrect password, GEnie will mail the correct
one to you at the address we have on file.
I get INCORRECT FORMAT?
INCORRECT FORMAT is similar to VALIDATION FAULT. In indicates you are not
typing the userid and password in the format GEnie is looking for. You should
check your communications software to make sure you have linefeeds turned off.
Also be sure you aren't typing any spaces with the userid and password. If the
problem persists, call Client Services.
I get noise on the line?
Be sure to get a PORt number and call Client Services. Have your userid, the
city and number you are dialing, the PORt number, your access speed and the
brand/model of your PC and software handy.
I want to know what's new on GEnie?
You can find this information online. You should periodically check the
"What's New on GEnie" selection from the main menu. All new products and
features are announced in this area. You can check what's new currently as
well as for the preceding month. You can also type INDEX at any menu prompt.
INDEX will give you a listing of all the major page names and numbers on the
service.
