  8. Q:  I don't know the root password.  How do I change it? \

  10. A:  If the machine is running, make a clean shutdown and get into the ROM monitor.  Bring up the machine single user by typing 
  11. \i bsd -s
  12. \i0 , 
  13. \i bod -s
  14. \i0  or 
  15. \i ben -s
  16. \i0  for scsi-, opticaldisk- and networkbooting respectively.  When you get the prompt, execute the following command:\
  17.     # 
  18. \i sh /etc/rc
  19. \i0 \
  20. This will get NetInfo up and running. Then you can easily change the root password by running:\
  21.     # 
  22. \i passwd root
  23. \i0 \
  24. Enter and confirm your new root password.  Make a clean shutdown and boot in your regular fashion.\

  26. Note:  If security is a concern, use a hardware password to deny unauthorized users access to the ROM commands.\
