\
Q: I don't know the root password. How do I change it? \
\
A: If the machine is running, make a clean shutdown and get into the ROM monitor. Bring up the machine single user by typing
\i bsd -s
\i0 ,
\i bod -s
\i0 or
\i ben -s
\i0 for scsi-, opticaldisk- and networkbooting respectively. When you get the prompt, execute the following command:\
#
\i sh /etc/rc
\i0 \
This will get NetInfo up and running. Then you can easily change the root password by running:\
#
\i passwd root
\i0 \
Enter and confirm your new root password. Make a clean shutdown and boot in your regular fashion.\
\
Note: If security is a concern, use a hardware password to deny unauthorized users access to the ROM commands.\
