A N N O U N C I N G T E X M E N U V E R S I O N 3 . 0
I've tried hard to finish version 3.0 until release of NeXT's CD-ROM...
Well, it will be finished in about one month (including all documentation),
that is mid/end of september 1992. When releasing 3.0 I'll also put a demo
on the servers mentioned in the Help menu item.
TeXmenu 3.0 will not come for free, but TeXmenu will come shareware priced...
If you're interested in a really improved and expanded TeXmenu drop a little
note to schlangm@informatik.uni-muenchen.de or send me a card. In both cases
you will be informed about the release.
And here are the features not included in the public domain versions until version 2.2 (important improvements marked with +):
- Lots of bugs fixed,
+ extended terminal emulation (TERM=TeXmenu). This emulation
was designed to work with ispell (interactive) and vi,
- expanded Copy&Paste: Paste in shell, Enter Selection item.
+ Services to translate your actual project, any file or any
selection via a shortcut, include files in Edit,
- 8-bit terminal handling (e.g. Umlauts in ispell),
- all terminal commands may be customized,
- converters for various encoding schemes including
german.sty-like,
- security hole tty closed,
+ clicking on a .eps-file examines this file for the creating
application and source and launches it instead of Preview or
Scene (say you design a figure foo.diagram with Diagram!(TM)
and save it to foo.eps---clicking on foo.eps in the project
browser will launch Diagram!)
- generalized auxiliary mechanism,
+ \include-d files may be included or excluded from the
project-browser,
+ searching a whole project has been improved: now the found
pattern is selected, not the whole line. Using special
characters (quotation marks ...) is save thing now.
- activation/deactivation, window ordering is customizeable,
+ TeXmenu remembers positions and sizes of all windows including
the project browser,
- minimini icons for the different file types in the browser,
+ style-options are also parsed,
+ PSFig support (includes compressed files),
- scrollback in terminal enabled or disabled,
+++ the 'Watcher Panel' watches TeX's output and comes up when
an error occurred... the watcher is informed about the actual
sourcing position and will open Edit (or whatever) with this
position selected. This is a lot better than using TeX's
'e' command, because you can go through all the errors before
restarting TeX. Furthermore the Watcher restricts inputs to
TeX to valid types and supports the user with filenames and a
history-based input line,
+ rewritten and expanded documentation.
I'm sure that I've forgotten some points, but that's it for this time.
