NOTES FOR THE AIR WARRIOR II PLAYABLE DEMO
This demo is designed to give you a good idea of what you can
expect in the final product, plus provide you with a taste of
the game's action offline.
In 1997 Air Warrior enters its 10th year as the original and
finest multiplayer air combat simulation available to
civilians. Each night, on America Online, CompuServe, and
over the internet, pilots from all over the world fly with
and against other human combatants in large online arenas.
Air Warrior is not an eight or sixteen player lan game, but
a true multiplayer simulation where over 100 pilots can
occupy the same, shared airspace in each of several active
arenas. With the debut of Air Warrior II, the number of
pilots that can occupy an online arena will more than double.
The fundamental aim, however, of Air Warrior II is to offer a
full featured air combat sim to a larger audience. AWII will
have lots of offline play - 6 campaigns with over 100 total
missions, spanning World War II from the Battle of Britain to
the final weeks of the air war over Germany. This playable
demo offers you a sample of what the final product will
offer.
PLAYABLE FEATURES OF THE DEMO
Instant Action
When you run the demo, after the credits screens you will
come to an airfield scene. This is the main menu. Click on
the Focke Wulf in the foreground and the demo takes you into
an instant action mission. You may be prompted the first
time to setup your flight controls.
The instant action mission pits you, in a P-51 Mustang,
against a large number of German Ju87 Stukas, Ju88 bombers,
and Messerschmitt 109 fighters, all of them engaged in a
strike against your main airfield on a simplified terrain.
For a list of inflight keyboard commands, hit F1. You may
want to pause the action by hitting the P key prior to
checking out the help screen.
Hitting the F6, or F7 keys will expand your view area outside
the cockpit. Hit F5 to return to the default view mode. Hit
the N key to view the action from outside your aircraft.
Hitting the 9 key starts/stops you gun camera.
To end the mission, hit <esc> E <enter> in sequence at any
time.
4th Fighter Group Mission
From the main menu, click on the hangar labeled Missions.
You'll be presented with a selection of Theaters of
Operation. Select Allies in Europe (the Hawker Hurricane in
the upper right corner). From the Allies Ops room, click on
the chalkboard labeled Missions. To get details on the
mission click on its entry on the chalkboard. If you accept
the mission, you'll be taken to a briefing room for further
mission details. Click Fly (below the mission map) to begin
the mission. This sortie takes place in a far larger, and
historically based, European terrain, unlike that employed in
the Instant Action mission.
Gun Camera Films
Click on the building labeled Film to the right side of the
main menu (main airfield) screen. This brings up a list of
available films. Simply select one, and click OK to play it.
For a list of film playback commands, hit F1 during film
replay. Hit P to pause the replay.
Setup Hangar
Click on the hangar labeled setup. This brings you,
appropriately, into the setup hangar. Clicking on the
mechanic's clipboard will present you with several options:
flight controls setup (upper left), difficulty level inflight
(lower left), and cockpit display options (right side).
Clicking on the file cabinet to the left of the mechanic lets
you set your user preferences (interface, flight resolution,
performance, and directories). Clicking on the loudspeaker,
to the upper right of the mechanic, allows you to adjust
sound in the program. To adjust individual inflight sound
effects, select Custom. You may to increase the distance at
which you hear the sounds of nearby aircraft and weapons
(slider at the bottom).
All setup options can be selected from the pop up menu that
appears if you use a right mouse button click, anywhere in
the interface.
You can enter other Ops rooms, plus the modem-to-modem tower.
Clicking on the hotspots in these rooms will bring up a
description of what features they represent in the final
product.
We hope you enjoy this demo. Look for the final Air Warrior
II product in stores during the first quarter of 1997.
