  7. Thank you for trying the demo of Burnout. This demo will
  8. give you a brief view of the features in Burnout. Many of
  9. the features in the full product are disabled or are not
  10. available in this demo.

  13. demo and information about the full product.

  16. INSTALLATION
  17. ----------------------------------------------------------
  18. To install the Burnout demo you must follow these steps:
  19.  
  20. 1) Create a directory where you wish to install the demo to.
  21. 2) Copy the BURNDEMO.EXE file to the directory or if
  22.    BURNDEMO has already been run, copy the extracted files
  23.    to the directory created in step #1.
  24. 3) Run the INSTALL.BAT.

  27. RUNNING THE DEMO
  28. ----------------------------------------------------------
  29. If you have a 3Dfx card you will want to run BURNOUT.EXE.
  30. If you don't have a 3Dfx card, run BURNOUTS.EXE.

  33. CONTROLS
  34. ----------------------------------------------------------
  35. To select menu items, left click on them with the mouse
  36. move to the item using the TAB (or SHIFT-TAB) keys and
  37. press ENTER.

  39. The following controls are active while taking a practice
  40. run:
  41.  
  42. Steer Left      Cursor Left     Steers car to the left
  43. Steer Right     Cursor Right    Steers car to the Right
  44. Accelerate      Cursor Up       Presses the accelerator
  45. Brake           Cursor Down     Presses the brake pedal
  46. Line-Lock       ENTER key       Locks the front brakes only
  47. Shift Up        A key           Shift transmission up a gear
  48. Shift Down      Z key           Shift transmission down a gear
  49. Reverse         R key           Put transmission in reverse
  50. Trans-Brake     Space key       Locks transmission
  51. Two-Step        T key           Turn on/off the rev limiter
  52. Parachute       Tab key         Release parachute
  53. Look Left       S key           Change the view to look left
  54. Look Right      F key           Change the view to look right
  55. Look Forward    E key           Change the view to look forward
  56. Look Backward   D key           Change the view to look backward
  57. Next view       > key           Display next view
  58. Previous view   < key           Display previous

  60. F2          Adjust level of detail or the people around the track.
  61. F3          Adjust level of detail of the buildings.
  62. F4          Adjust level of detail of the smoke.
  63. F5          Turn horizon on or off.
  64. F6          Turn the clouds on or off.
  65. F7          Turn the motion blur on or off (3Dfx version only).
  66. F8          Turn on or off the dash.
  67. F9          Turn  the sound on or off.
  68. F10         Quick save the current telemetry data.
  69. INS key     Capture a screen shot. This option is available if
  70.             the -s option is supplied on the command line
  71.             (i.e. DRAG -s). Screens are placed in the SAVE
  72.             directory inside the directory in which Burnout
  73.             is installed.
  74. ], SHFT-]   Change the horizontal display size.
  75. [, SHFT-[   Change the vertical display size.

  77. We have also included a preliminary copy of the manual in
  78. the file called MINIMAN.TXT. While not the full manual, it
  79. will contain useful and more detailed information on using
  80. BURNOUT.

  83. PROBLEMS
  84. ----------------------------------------------------------
  85. When running the 3Dfx version if you get an error about a
  86. missing DLL or Glide driver problem you will need to install
  87. the latest Glide drivers. These can be obtained from the
  88. 3Dfx web site at www.3dfx.com.

  90. If you get a video error while running the software rendered
  91. version, you may need to obtain a VESA driver. A program
  92. called UNIVBE widely available over the internet and will
  93. fix most of these problems.

  101. -Dozens of customizable components for players to tweak to
  102.  perfection.
  103. -32 telemetry and time card data points are recorded to
  104.  analyze player's performance.
  105. -20 tracks from various geographic locations, each with
  106.  unique characteristics including several NHRA tracks.
  107. -Multi-player support over modem, LAN and internet.
  108. -Accurate physics including realistic modeling of engine,
  109.  suspension, tires and collisions.
  110. -Adjustable difficulty levels allow players to start
  111.  winning then move up.
  112. -Customizable game features include controls, sound, and
  113.  graphics features.
  114. -Replay, save and exchange your best races using the VCR
  115.  feature.
  116. -Multiple methods of  play including practice, single race,
  117.  event or race an entire season.
  118. -Beautifully rendered cars and tracks using Bethesda's
  119.  latest XnGine technology or hardware-accelerated through 3Dfx.
  120. -Multiple camera views and racing perspectives.
  121. -Stereo sound effects digitized from actual drag
  122.  racing vehicles.
