Thank you for installing the Aaron vs. Ruth Interactive Demo
The following contains some very important information and it is highly
recommended that you read the entire document prior to attempting to run
the demo.
The contents of this document include:
1. Microsoft® DirectX™ requirements
2. Keyboard Controls
3. Home Run Derby rules
4. Aaron vs Ruth: Battle of the Big Bats
5. MSA Notes
1. Microsoft® DirectX Requirements:
THIS PRODUCT REQUIRES MICROSOFT'S DIRECTX 3a.
If you already have DirectX 3a installed on the system we suggest that you
skip the DirectX install and run the program. If the program does not run,
or if you know that DirectX 3a is not already on the system, you must
install DirectX 3a before you will be able to run the program.
The installation for Microsoft's DirectX may cause problems with some
manufacturer's videocard drivers. It may be necessary for you to reselect
or reinstall your video drivers after the DirectX install restarts your
machine. To help avoid problems, we recommend that you do the following
before proceeding with the install:
Click on Start> Settings> Control Panels> Display, and click on the
Settings tab. Click on 'Change Display Type' or 'Advanced Properties', and
write down the Adapter type as it appears on the screen. This is the video
driver that is currently in use.
If, after the DirectX install has restarted your machine and you notice any
display problems in Windows '95, or if Windows '95 does not start up, do
the following;
If Windows '95 starts up (in normal or 'safe' mode); Click on Start>
Settings> Control Panels> Add/Remove Programs, choose 'DirectX drivers',
and click the Add/Remove button. A DXSetup panel will appear. Click on
the 'Restore Windows Display Drivers' button.
To revert to a 'generic' Windows '95 driver;
IF Windows '95 will not start up, or the above procedure does not work, you
can usually start up in Windows 'Safe Mode' (Choose this from the start up
menu, which is brought up by pressing F8 when the words 'Starting Windows
'95' appear during boot-up). Right-click on 'My Computer', select
properties, click the Device Manager tab, click on Display Adapters, select
the item that appears there, and click the 'Remove' button. Windows will
prompt you to confirm this. Windows will then prompt you to restart to
make the changes take effect. When Windows restarts, it will detect and
query your videocard, then select a compatible driver from it's own
database. This driver will provide most, if not all of the functions that
Windows requires from your videocard. If you still wish to use the drivers
written by the videocard manufacturer, or if problems persist, you should
contact your videocard or system manufacturer for help with this issue.
Most manufacturers have updated video drivers that do not conflict with the
DirectX install.

3. Home Run Derby Rules
This Aaron vs Ruth demo offers the Home Run Derby that is included with the
full version of Aaron vs Ruth with a few limitations. In the demo, the
user can control both Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth for the maximum amount of
swings, or play head-to-head with a friend.
Each batter has 5 outs. The outs are tallied in the ΓÇ£OutsΓÇ¥ box on the
scoreboard counting down from 5.
Anything that is not a home run (ground balls, pop-ups short of the wall,
foul balls, called strikes) is an out.
The batter with the most home runs at the end of the game is the winner.
4. Aaron vs Ruth: Battle of the Big Bats
Aaron vs Ruth brings some of the greatest players of all-time back to the
diamond. In addition to Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth, weΓÇÖve got Cy Young,
Walter Johnson, Satchel Paige, Whitey Ford, Bob Gibson, Jim Palmer, Steve
Carlton, Roger Clemens, Juan Marichal, Greg Maddux, Warren Spahn, Ty Cobb,
Roberto Clemente, Carl Yastremski, Pete Rose, Willie Mays, Frank Robinson,
Willie Stargell, Sadaharu Oh, Lou Brock, Josh Gibson, Yogi Berra, Johnny
Bench, Lou Gehrig, Willie McCovey, Rod Carew, Rogers Hornsby, Jackie
Robinson, Joe Morgan, Honus Wagner, Ernie Banks, Robin Yount, Brooks
Robinson, Mike Schmidt, Eddie Matthews and more! With in depth biographies
of all the players, youΓÇÖll know exactly who you are drafting to your team.
The Home Run Derby in the full version of Aaron vs Ruth will allow the user
to choose the number of outs (5, 10 ,15) and the superstar who will be
doing the hitting. You will also be able to choose from a number of
great looking stadiums, including the Polo Grounds and Field of Dreams.
Along with Home Run Derby, Aaron vs Ruth offers Exhibition, Series and
Season mode.
Motion capture technology was used to create the most realistic looking
graphics imaginable.
The program will support most compatible joystick controllers, including
the Gravis Gamepad and GrIP.
Users can choose to control all of the details of the game, or none of
them. Simulate a season using the 25 greatest players you just drafted on
to one team and see how theyΓÇÖd fare. This can be done game by game, or in
just seconds by simulating the entire season at once.
Connect to Total Baseball by using your Internet browser or the provided
AT&T WorldNet Service Software to get a closer look at the players you plan
to draft. This can all be done from the Player Bios screen, no need to
exit the program. (This feature not available for the demo version)
5. MSA Notes
Mindscape Sports Advantage offers the latest in PC and Playstation sports
titles for basketball, with NCAA Final Four Basketball, and baseball, with
Aaron vs Ruth: Battle of the Big Bats. The idea is simple: Fun and
accurate sports games. Awesome art and realistic motion capture technology
was used to bring to life all the details that are normally forgotten in
sports products. Just check out the double-play turn by the shortstop. Or
the center getting back to his feet after a small forward charge him to the
ground. Or even the over the shoulder catches by the center fielder.
These are just a few of the little things that youΓÇÖll notice throughout
both titles. Combine this with outstanding gameplay and your looking at a
very entertaining session in front of the tube.
Keep an eye out for these first round draft choices, coming soon to your
local retailer.
