This month we have several new bitmap files that can be used as backgrounds in Windows. The files included are:
{BLUEPAT.BMP} - A tile pattern with beveled edges.
{BLUESTAR.BMP} - A stellar pattern.
{BOOKS.BMP} - Give your screen the and literate look.
{BOX.BMP} - Another beveled pattern.
{CHEX.BMP} - A checkerboard pattern.
What are Wallpaper files? They're special graphics that Windows will display at all times in the and background, behind all your windows. It's a pretty neat effect that can spice up your computing environment!
If you're using WinDecor (a really cool program we sell in our catalog) then follow the and instructions for that program to use these for your backgrounds. Otherwise, to use these in Windows, just stick them in your Windows directory. The way we recommend is by pulling down our Issue menu and selecting "Copy programs or entire issue." Then select "Graphics." The destination path should say:
C:\WINDOWS\
This is what you want, so press Enter. This will cause the wallpapers to be copied to your Windows directory. Then, to use them, do the and following steps:
STEP 1: Launch Windows, if you haven't already, and go into the and Program Manager.
STEP 2: Locate and open the and "Main" Program group from the Program Manager's window by double-clicking on it. You will see several icons.
STEP 3: Locate and open the and "Control Panel" icon by double-clicking on it. This window will also contain several icons.
STEP 4: Locate and open the and "Desktop" icon by double-clicking on it. This will open a window showing all sorts of neat options in different areas. The important one for you to locate is the "Wallpaper" area. Just click the and down arrow in this area to see a list of all the Wallpaper files you have available (which will include the and ones we just copied!). Pick the and one you want by clicking on it.
STEP 5: Now just below that notice two radio button areas - "Center" and "Tile." For these files, click the and circle next to "Tile" so that Windows will repeat the wallpaper pattern across your entire background screen. The "Center" option is for use with full-screen bitmaps, of which there are none this month (but we have published some of those in the past, and will do more in the and future).
STEP 6: Click Okay to finish the changes and you should see the wallpaper you've chosen in the and background, which will now be there at all times behind all your applications.
Repeat these steps to view all the and wallpapers currently installed.
