  5. Another month come and gone, it's already Spring!  Man, where did the Winter go?
  6.

So, what's going on here at Softdisk as the vernal equinox suddenly springs upon us, eh?  Big things!  Secret things!  Things that go bump in the night!  Well, that's only because the programmers who work late won't get up to turn on the  and lights after the sun goes down, and end up staggering out to their cars in the dark at midnight, (unless it's a poker night, then they shoot out of here with the  and last rays of the  and dying sun...)

  9. But what are those mystic Knights of Technology working on during those late hours anyway?  What arcane collection of "while... do" and "if... then" puzzles are they crafting for your future enjoyment?  Well, I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.

  11. Hmmm.... It's probably more accurate to say that you'll kill me if I DON'T tell you.  So I'll tell you.

Our current buzz-phrase around Softdisk Editorial (the place where we dream up and create the vast panoply of software we publish each month) is "Universal Document Format," which has a properly technoidish acronym of U.D.F. or "Uhdph," as we call it around here.  So, what is U.D.F. anyway?  Well, it is a way to spread the wealth among our customers.  It is a way to take a crossword puzzle file created on the  and PC and publish it on the Mac.  It is a way to take a trivia puzzle and publish it on all of our platforms.  In short, it is a way to make our jobs easier, our products more appealing, and your life more fulfilled.  Okay, okay, I know the  and grammar on that last sentence was somewhat lacking, but I like the way it sounded anyway.

  15. But in a larger sense, what is going on at Softdisk?  Well, in a larger sense, I'll tell you that too.

We are upgrading our entire product line as we speak.  Our PC product has moved to VGA and Windows support, our Mac product is moving to System 7 and color support, our IIGS product has a new and better shell program and supports "The Manager," (a multi-tasking utility) and our Apple II and Commodore products are, well they ARE anyway, which is a lot in these days of dwindling development for those platforms.

  19. We are beginning to look at other methods of publishing our software, including PowerPC, CD-ROM, online services and much more.  Softdisk is ON THE MOVE, and we're glad you're along for the ride.

  21. We are also planning on starting a major campaign to involve user groups with our product line.  Our strategy is as follows:

  23. {#1. Add a new column to all of our monthly products that is specifically designed to promote user groups.

  25. #2. Offer special prices to user group members.
  26.  
  27. #3. Republish (with permission) articles from user group newsletters from around the country.
  28.  
  29. #4. Create a User Group Directory and publish it on disk each quarter (at least).}

  31. Look for the new column on our next issue.

  33. But for now, sit back, insert your monthly issue of "Softdisk," on whatever platform you prefer, and let us take you away from your cares and worries for a few hours.  You deserve it.
