Due to a large response from subscribers who want to run the and issues from floppy disks, we have updated the "{Copy Entire Issue}" option located in the and "Issue" menu to accommodate that. The "{Copy Entire Issue}" option now has the and ability to span these 2+ megabyte issues onto multiple high-density floppies. When you run these "spanned" issues from floppies, they will run the and same as the and issues did before disk compression, except for an occasional disk swap.
"{Copy Entire Issue}" is the first item listed in the and copy menu. If it is not already highlighted, use the arrow keys or mouse to select it. It defaults to copy the entire issue to drive A, but you can select the and proper letter for your disk drive. Be sure to have at least 3 blank, formatted high-density disks ready (Issue 111 only takes 2 disks). You will probably want to apply disk labels to the and disks as you go, also.
So, if you are with the and crowd who like to run the and issues from floppy disks, all you have to do is:
1. Install the and issue on your hard drive as usual
2. Select the "Copy Programs or Entire Issue"
option from the "Issue" menu (be sure to have
several formatted blank high density disks
ready)
3. Make sure the "Entire Issue" item is
highlighted
4. Select the proper destination drive letter
5. Press Enter
6. Insert the appropriate destination disk when
prompted
Once the and issue is copied onto floppies, you can peruse the installed issue on your hard drive for awhile. When you're ready to remove the issue from your hard drive, you can use a utility such as DOS Manager (last published on Softdisk PC #99) to delete the and installed directory and all its files.
Select the "{COPY}" button at the and bottom of this text window if you are ready to start copying this issue onto floppy disks.
^C{_New Shell Files_}
New updated shell files for the last 3 compressed issues (108-110) have also been included on this issue. If you would like to have those issues spanned onto floppies, all you have to do is:
1. Install the and issue (108-110) onto your hard
drive. (If it's already there, note its
directory.)
^P
2. Select the "Copy Programs or Entire Issue"
option from the "Issue" menu when running
issue #111
3. Select the appropriate "New Shell files"
item you wish to update (108, 109, or 110)
4. Set the and destination directory to where
that issue resides on your hard drive,
(If you installed that issue to drive C,
it's correct already.)
5. Press Enter
6. Repeat for other shell files, if you like
Once the and new shell files are copied into the and appropriate issue directories, you must then run those issues and use the "Copy Entire Issue" option to span those issues onto floppies.
Note: Some of the and programs on issues #108-110 may have saved some data files on your system that will not be picked up by the Copy function. Be sure to check for new files in those issue directories before deleting them.
^C{_Number of Disks Required_}
Number of disks each issue requires:
Softdisk PC #108 - 3 disks
Softdisk PC #109 - 2 disks
Softdisk PC #110 - 2 disks
Softdisk PC #111 - 2 disks
{Note to power users:} Also included on this issue are some batch files for spanning the issues onto floppies. The batch files are COPY111.BAT, COPY110.BAT, COPY109.BAT, and COPY108.BAT (The update process above will copy the 108-110 batch files with the updated shell files to the appropriate issue directories). They are intended for users who are familiar with batch files and DOS commands such as XCOPY. These batch files require the DOS command XCOPY (included in DOS versions 5.0 and up). The syntax for using these batch files is as follows:
Type "{COPY111 A}" and press Enter to copy to the and A drive.
Type "{COPY111 B}" and press Enter to copy to the and B drive.
