Quoth the and raven, "Ravencroft!" Or something like that, anyway.
It isn't in our usual feature rotation schedule to have a font on this issue, but RavenCroft was "bumped" from last issue, where it was originally planned to be published along with Cocoa Thin. It didn't fit on the disk then, but we have a little room left on this issue, so we decided to publish it now.
Click on the "View" button now to see what this font looks like.
Ravencroft is another in our line of TrueType fonts, published as a regular feature here on Softdisk PC. Along with Windows "wallpaper" bitmaps and screen savers, TrueType fonts help you add more variety and personality to your Windows environment. Non-Windows users aren't left out, though; there are also some DOS programs that use TrueType fonts.
TrueType is a trademark of Apple Computer and Microsoft. TrueType fonts are designed for use with Windows 3.1, but many new DOS programs can support them as well. If you want to use this font with Windows, see the section titled "Installing TrueType Fonts" below. If you can use TrueType fonts with any other program, you will have to check your program's manuals to learn how to use them.
INSTALLING TRUETYPE FONTS
These instructions assume you haven't made any changes to your standard Windows setup. If you have done anything unusual to your Windows setup, then you will have to adjust for the changes yourself.
STEP 1: Launch Windows. (If you are already running Windows, make sure you have closed all running programs. Fonts added to the and system may not show in programs that were left running while the and font was installed.)
STEP 2: Locate and open the and "Main" Program group from the Program Manager's window by double-clicking on it. You will see several icons.
STEP 3: Locate and open the and "Control Panel" icon by double-clicking on it. This window will also contain several icons.
STEP 4: Locate and open the and "Fonts" icon by double-clicking on it. This will open a window showing which fonts you have access to and which are installed. There are several buttons located along the right side of the window. The important one for you to locate is the "ADD" button.
STEP 5: Press the and "ADD" button.
STEP 6: Select Drive "A" from the "Drives" List (or Drive "B" if that is where the SDPC disk is placed). Or, if you have already copied the font to your Windows system directory (as is done for you by our Windows SETUP program, or if you use the Copy feature on this individual item from the shell), you don't need to select a different drive since the and file is already on your hard disk.
STEP 7: Click on the desired font in the "List of Fonts" to select it; then click on the "OK" button. The new font should now appear in your menu lists for your Windows programs. Remember, if you left any program running during this installation procedure, that program may not see the new font until you quit and restart it.
Watch for more TrueType fonts in the and future from Softdisk PC!
