  3. This month we offer our first Windows 3.1 program.
  4. Win Decor lets you have a different Wallpaper
  5. backgound for Windows each time you run Windows.
  6.  
  7. Wallpaper backgrounds can be either tiled or
  8. centered.  Tiled backgrounds repeat a .BMP file from
  9. the top left of the screen until the screen is full.
  10. Centered backgrounds take a .BMP file and center
  11. the image on the screen.
  12.  
  13. There are several shareware programs that allow
  14. you to randomly choose a background, but most of
  15. them either tile everything, or use some sort
  16. of arbitrary method to decide whether to tile
  17. or center the Wallpaper backgrounds.
  18.  
  19. Win Decor puts YOU in charge.  You can select
  20. whether to tile or center individual images,
  21. regardless of their size or name.  You can also
  22. choose any combination of .BMP files to include
  23. in the random search.

  25. Introduction

  27. Win Decor is a Windows utility that was specifically 
  28. created to give you more power over your Windows 
  29. wallpaper.  Use Win Decor to select a group of bit 
  30. mapped graphics (.BMP files).  Every time you boot 
  31. Windows, Win Decor will randomly select a .bmp to 
  32. display as your wallpaper.  You never know which 
  33. graphic Win Decor will display next! You can add Win 
  34. Decor to your Windows Startup so that it will run 
  35. automatically each time you boot or reboot Windows, or 
  36. you can run Win Decor like any other program.  
  37. Remember, Win Decor not only adds an element of 
  38. surprise to Windows computing, but it allows you to 
  39. control the surprise!

  42. How To Install 
  43.  
  44. Step 1 -- Use the File Manager to copy DECOR.EXE and 
  45. DECOR.HLP  into your Windows directory. 
  46.  
  47. Step 2 -- Close the File Manager and return to the 
  48. Program Manager. 
  49.  
  50. Step 3 -- Open the "Main" Program Group window from the 
  51. Program Manager. 
  52.  
  53. Step 4 -- Under the File Menu, select "New." 
  54.  
  55. Step 5 -- In the "New" dialog box that appears, select 
  56. "New Program Item." 
  57.  
  58. Step 6 -- In the "New Program Item" dialog box that 
  59. appears, fill in the matching blanks with the 
  60. information that follows:

  62. Description:            Win Decor Configuration 
  63. Command Line:           decor.exe 
  64.  
  65. Step 7 -- Press OK to create the "New Program Item."
  66.  
  67. Step 8 -- Close the "Main" Program Group window.
  68.  
  69. Note:  Steps 9-12 add Win Decor to Windows Startup so 
  70. that Win Decor will automatically display a new .BMP 
  71. every time you boot Windows.  If you do not wish to 
  72. change your current setup, ignore the remaining steps.

  74. Step 9 -- Open the "Startup" Program Group window from 
  75. the Program Manager or create a "Startup" Program Group 
  76. if your current Windows setup does not include one. 
  77.  
  78. Step 10 -- Under the File Menu, select "New." 
  79.  
  80. Step 11 -- In the "New" dialog box that appears, select 
  81. "New Program Item." 
  82.  
  83. Step 12 -- In the "New Program Item" dialog box that 
  84. appears, fill in the matching blanks with the 
  85. information that follows:

  88. Command Line:           decor.exe /s 
  89.  
  90. Note:  You must type a space before the slash (/), when 
  91. you type "decor.exe /s" in the command line blank 
  92. above.

  94. Note:  To de-install Win Decor without actually 
  95. removing it from your hard drive, either delete the 
  96. program item "Win Decor Startup" from your Startup 
  97. Group or move it to another group.  This will keep Win 
  98. Decor from running every time you reboot Windows.

  100. How To Configure 
  101.  
  102. First, run the "Win Decor Configuration" item
  103. by double-clicking on its icon in the Program
  104. Manager.
  105.  
  106. When you ran Win Decor, it "scanned" your Windows 
  107. directory for .BMP files.  These appear in the File 
  108. List on the left side of the Win Decor configuration 
  109. dialog box.  The total number of .BMP files found by 
  110. Win Decor is shown just below the file list.  The first 
  111. time you run Win Decor, all are "selected," so the 
  112. number in Selected Files should match the number in 
  113. Total Files.

  115. You may now select a group of .bmp files that Win Decor 
  116. can access.  You do this by "excluding" those .BMP 
  117. files that you do not want Win Decor to display.  Each 
  118. time you boot Windows, Win Decor will display one of 
  119. the .bmp files you included in this group as your new 
  120. wallpaper.

  122. Step 1 -- Highlight a .BMP file that you wish to 
  123. include or exclude. 
  124.  
  125. Step 2 -- Select Include or Exclude (located to the 
  126. right of the File List in the Status section of Current 
  127. Selection).  Please note that the "+" or "-" symbol 
  128. located beside each .BMP filename illustrates its 
  129. status. 
  130.  
  131. Step 3 -- Select the way you want the .BMP to display -
  132. - TILE (the graphic repeats to fill the entire screen) 
  133. or CENTER (one copy of the graphic is centered on your 
  134. screen).  The display method of each .BMP is denoted by 
  135. a "T" or a "C" beside the .BMP filenames in the File 
  136. List.

  138. Step 4 -- Repeat Steps 1-3 for each .BMP file that you 
  139. want to change.

  141. Step 5 -- Select OK to save the current settings and 
  142. exit, or select Cancel to discard the changes you've 
  143. made.

  145. -- BUTTONS --
  146.  
  147. There are a total of nine buttons in the Win Decor 
  148. Configuration dialog box.  One button, located in the 
  149. Current Selection area, allows you to use a selected 
  150. .BMP file as your current Windows Wallpaper.  Four 
  151. buttons provide you with shortcuts for "including" or 
  152. "excluding" all .BMP files and for "tiling" or 
  153. "centering" all .BMP files.  These are located directly 
  154. under the Current Selection area.  Four other buttons 
  155. allow you to access Help or information about Win Decor 
  156. and to OK new settings or cancel any changes you've 
  157. made to the settings.

  159. Use As Current Wallpaper -- Select this button to use 
  160. the highlighted .BMP file as your current Windows 
  161. Wallpaper.  Hint: it also provides you with a way to 
  162. view files when trying to decide whether to include 
  163. or to exclude them from the Win Decor "pool."

  165. Include All -- Select this button to include all the 
  166. listed .BMP files in the "pool" of files from which Win 
  167. Decor will make a random selection each time you boot 
  168. Windows.  A "+" sign will be placed in front of each 
  169. filename.  Use this when you want to include all files 
  170. or when you want to include all but a few files.

  172. Exclude All -- Select this button to exclude all the 
  173. listed .BMP files from the "pool" of files from which 
  174. Win Decor will make a random selection each time you 
  175. boot Windows.  A "-" sign will be placed in front of 
  176. each filename.  Use this when you want to exclude all 
  177. files or when you want to include just a few files.

  179. Tile All -- Select this button to tile each .BMP file.  
  180. A "T" will be placed in front of the filename and after 
  181. the "+" or "-". 
  182.  
  183. Center All -- Select this button to center each .BMP 
  184. file.  A "C" will be placed in front of the filename 
  185. and after the "+" or "-".

  187. About... -- Select this button to access version, 
  188. credit and copyright information in the About Box. 
  189.  
  190. Help... -- Select this button to access the Contents 
  191. Page of Win Decor Help. 
  192.  
  193. Cancel -- Select this button to exit without saving any 
  194. changes to Win Decor's settings. 
  195.  
  196. OK -- Select this button to save the current settings 
  197. and exit Win Decor.
